Murals Inside the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens Look Nice, But Who’s Looking?

Last Friday and Saturday night, ANIMAL headed down to the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens to cover this project for Metro New York. It was commissioned by the New York Racing Association and featured 11 artists from all over the world who created 14 vibrant, graffiti-influenced murals throughout the indoor concourse.

Late Friday evening, with the track closed to the public, the artists were hard at work finishing their pieces. The vibes were bright.

The next night, the feel was very different as the track opened. The crowds gambled, most of them not looking at the murals but paying attention to various terminals and video betting machines, as many of them do — several days a week, for many years.

Here are some supplementary photos from both nights to add a bit of context to this ambitious rebranding.
