NASA Releases Trippy GIF of Enormous Saturn Hurricane

NASA’s Cassini spacecraft recently captured footage of “the hexagon,” a storm at Saturn’s north pole with an eye that’s 1,250 miles wide. The space administration says it is highest-resolution film ever captured of the storm system, which has been raging for decades.

In accordance with the times, NASA released the color-filtered clip as a GIF.

“The hexagon is just a current of air, and weather features out there that share similarities to this are notoriously turbulent and unstable,” Andrew Ingersoll of the Cassini team said. “A hurricane on Earth typically lasts a week, but this has been here for decades — and who knows — maybe centuries.”
