New York Officially Becomes 23rd State to Tell the DEA to STFU

July 8, 2014 | Bucky Turco

Governor Cuomo signed legislation today to establish a medical weed program in New York, making it the 23rd state in the U.S. to legalize the good herb. Although it’s very restrictive and has lots of shortcomings, the measure is a step in the right direction.

The legislation also represents another direct challenge to the federal government and another institution chipping away at the the DEA, which refuses to admit that weed is safer than drugs like crack and heroin or that cannabis has any medicinal value, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Here’s how Mohamed Genedy, a smart person with a PhD in tissue engineering explained the benefits of cannabis in a 2013 study:

Despite the ongoing political debate regarding the legality of medical marijuana, clinical investigations of the therapeutic use of cannabinoids are now more prevalent than at any time in history. Cannabinoids have been shown to have analgesic, anti-spasmodic, anticonvulsant, anti-tremor, anti-psychotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-emetic and appetite-stimulant properties.
