Is Tokion Even Qualified To Host 'Creativity Conference' Anymore?
This weekend is Tokion magazine's so called "Creativity Now Conference." It's no secret that the once cool, bastion of Japanese subcultural wonderment was headed for irrelevance right about the time founder Adam Glickman cashed out. The young publisher left at an opportune time, reportedly netting a nice hunk of cash selling most of his interests to Larry Rosenblum. He's the the fumbling media guy who hasn't been able to move the dial, which could be due to adopting a strategy that involves pouring more money into the print product than the website at a time when paper based media entities are struggling and ad spending is increasingly moving to online. After a brief shuffle up last year, the magazine has continued to be a non-read among the "tastemaker and "key influencer" demographic they purport to reach. With the magazine's lackluster content and the conference's increasingly boring format, it's not unreasonable to question whether Tokion is even capable of pulling off a conference promoting creativity. Especially when they can't even implement permalinks on their website, an offense worthy of disqualification—that and inviting David Cross back.

I wanted to wait before I commented on this till TOKION actually had their conference so as not to give this post too much credit - Bucky - what the hell is wrong with you!? Indy magazines and websites and struggling in an ever shrinking economic advertising landscape and you decide to sling shit at one of your own? Dude this shit is just wrong. It's bad enough that you are attacking a great magazine that of course you know I worked at a few years back - but what you said about Larry was just childish. And saying Adam cashed out when his book became irrelevant is just as bad a jab at him. Personally I want to see indy culture flourish but obviously you would rather play school yard games that revolve around name calling. Man I thought you were better than that - I guess was wrong.

Spyro: Don't get your Missbehavin' panties in a bunch, I'm pretty sure this so called "indy culture" can still flourish in the face of some criticism and even with "an ever shrinking economic advertising landscape." In fact, if that's really the case, you need to spend more time filling out RFPs before you're thoroughly jobless. You're at the last stop!

oooo boo hoo big bad bucky hurt my wittle feewings - hey I just did some research into the traffic on your site - wooooow - it REALLY must be a labor of love bucky. Because there's no way you're making any money with that kind of traffic. Good thing you got a friend with an ad budget. Tell ya what sweet cheeks - you keep writing up your tiny little bloggy and the world will continue to ignore it - sorry you couldn't make your magazine work - maybe you should have learned to write or something like that first - it usually helps - I guess having a blog that posts crap you find on Stumble is a lot easier than thinking of anything original. Here's the best part - I really don't care what your opinions are,or what you think of me or what you put on your blog - and you know what the best part is -
No one else does either. I feel bad for ya man.
