FIXED GEARS
Old School Tiffany & Co. Fixed Gear for Sale

This 1890s built Tiffany fixed gear bicycle is pretty exquisite. The "silver mounted" lady's bike comes with a Brooks saddle and carved ivory handle grips. It's estimated to sell for between $50,000 - 70,000 at an upcoming auction at Bonhams NY in early June. According to the description "only a handful of these luxury two-wheelers were produced," one of them for turn of the century actress Lillian Russell. Close-ups and detail shots of the elaborate workmanship after the jump.

Wow thats so pretty. I'd love to see it in real life - it definately deserves to be on public display rather than being hidden away in a private collection.
I'm not sure I'd feel safe chaining it up outside the shops though!

What a beauty! I'd like to make a bike with ivory handlebars too, but who will pay for it?
Another thing that surprises me is to see that nothing has changed in a 100 years.
Have a look at my recumbents- finally we found a better way of cycling.

Sorry Anton--you obviously do not know much about modern upright bicycles. They are FAR superior to this beautiful Tiffany relic!
