PROTESTS
Brits Welcome Bush With Protests
Photo: |Peter Cleghorn|
British protesters have been quite the dedicated bunch this year. From the Olympic torch melee to May Day demonstrations and anti-Scientology rallies, the blokes across the Atlantic are certainly out in force causing a ruckus, including this past weekend during President Bush's farewell tour of London. Approximately 2,500 demonstrators assembled in Parliament Square. A total of 25 people were arrested (3 charged), for numerous "offences," and things got pretty heated when the crowds tried to get past a blockade of neon jacketed, club waiving Bobbies guarding any path towards Downing Street—Prime Minister Gordon Brown's residence and meeting spot with President Bush. Protesters donned masks, waived signs, and tussled with police, providing really amazing footage of activism in action. Jump for a select collection of chaos with links to more.
