NYPD BLUES

Parsing Officer Patrick Pogan's Anger

1_pogan_lede.jpg The video of rookie cop Patrick E. Pogan (shield #28957) violently body checking cyclist Christopher Long during a Critical Mass group ride has a lot of people wondering what motivated him to act in such a blatantly egregious manner. Contrary to the video evidence and universal common sense, the cop (deponent) claimed—in a sworn statement—that Long swerved and then ran into him, "causing deponent to fall to the ground and causing deponent to suffer lacerations on deponent's forearms" (PDF doc here). However, as the clip demonstrates, that's not the case and the attack was unprovoked. Why is Officer Perjurer Pogan so angry? ANIMAL takes a look into some of the potential, hostility-causing factors: UPDATE: All charges dropped!

Patrick E. Pogan Jr. is a 22-year-old (born 9/9/85) NYC cop who lives at home with his parents in the infinitely boring, bike unfriendly suburban enclave of Massapequa Park. Even more depressing, his daddy is a former NYPD detective—good luck having fun in that relatively small house (street view and overhead map). This is further evidenced when you call the house (516-|||-||||) and there's a curt voicemail recording: "We're not here right now, do what ya gotta do." Like most cops who live in Long Island but work in the city, Pogan most likely takes the LIRR daily, which when packed like the cattle car it is, could easily cause some intense mental discomfort. As to the effectiveness of the cowardly shove, it could be explained by the disgraced officer's former football days. He played on his high school team and was even chosen to play as an offensive lineman on the 2003 Long Island All Star team. The Pogans also have tons of tax problems, with a federal lien in one case for the amount of $34,385.00. Plus the most damning evidence: he only had like 5 Facebook friends before deactivation. UPDATE: The phone number appears to have been changed, but all the other information is 100% correct.

oh shnaps.

Bucky, that was good work.

Manhattan is unliveable for this reason; the cops who police it can't afford to live within its confines and the likes of Pushy Shovey Pogan-dwellers in the suburb from hell-can't jive with the lives of city dwellers and their benign interests, like bike riding. Hopefully Pogan will get a chance to live in the city soon; with a stay at the Manhattan Detention Center.

slam this jerk.

(pardon the pun)

Investigative journalism at its finest.

Bucky, great work! Thanks! Hopefully we can ride safely and avoid getting Poganed at any future rides around the city.

Dude was obviously having a bad day. He escalated the situation with the claim that he was struck by Long and not vice versa. Lies. The establishing shot in the video depicts a relatively docile crowd, so it's hard to understand how Long became isolated by Pogan.

maybe I'll just call Pogan directly to ask him. nice work, Bucky!

For the most part, you did your homework on this jerk, but I think your last point is wrong. I've never used Facebook before, but even I can see by clicking on some of his friends that all Facebook profiles only show five friends unless you log in, at which point I assume you can see all of them.

Thanks. After witnessing, firsthand, the encouraged roughhousing and overt hostility on behalf of the officers during the May 30th ride it became apparent that these guys have been given marching orders by NYPD brass to kick some ass. Even with all the cameras and videos rolling, the police refuse to back off these increasingly, rights-violating tactics and are instead intensifying their efforts—despite being in the limelight and in many cases in violation of the law. Unfortunately, this smug sense of being above the law and impervious to prosecution is making the situation even more dangerous, and not just for cyclists but for all New Yorkers. Even if you hate Critical Mass and everything it stands for, you should be disturbed by this video, even more so considering the officer's dishonest sworn statement, plain and simple. -Bucky

well you're a fool actually "Bucky" because one, that is not his phone number and two, you just felt the need to add the sly facebook remark in before ending your very informative article (and yes you should take that with a very sarcastic tone seeing as you basically reposted what has been on news channels and websites for days now), what are you, 4? I'd have to say the best part about this whole incident is not the situation involving the biker and OFFICER Pogan, it's the fact that people like yourself and your fellow cronies who have posted comments on this page and all over other sites will likely spends months discussing this issue and no doubt putting your own opinions in as if you actually had some involvement in it or what happens here on out, rather than worrying about the hundreds of American Soldiers dying overseas in Iraq, the thousands of mentally or physically ill Americans out there, and oh yes not to mention all the amazing work the NYPD and all other police officers around the country have done over the years to protect all of us from real crime. That is some true "investigative journalism" you've got going there Bucky.

Er...Ms Claire what has your trite email got to do with with this story? Please proceed to put your " I love NYPD flag " firmly up your jaxie.

"OFFICER" Pogan is not fit to work as a cop, simple as, and quite rightly deserves all the snipes he has been receiving because of his blatantly unprovoked attack.

And bore off about soldiers dying overseas or mentally ill "Americans" if you feel for them so much get over there and help them out instead o preaching.

I find it inconceivable that because some of us CHOOSE to diversify and cover something instead of your president's shite state of affairs that makes us fools??

You my dear are the ignoramus...

Do your thing Bucky.

Miss Claire,
You seem to be confused about what it means to live in this amazing country. And if you are not confused, you are seriously unpatriotic.
" it's the fact that people like yourself and your fellow cronies who have posted comments on this page and all over other sites will likely spends months discussing this issue and no doubt putting your own opinions in as if you actually had some involvement in it or what happens here on out"

We the people DO have a say in "what happens here on out". We elect officials to uphold our values and protect our rights, and that includes holding criminals (Pogan) accountable for their actions. If we the people never organized and just let this type of incident go without discussion, problems of police brutality would only increase. All government bodies put in charge of upholding the law need transparency and civilian oversight.

What the criminal Pogan did was lie on an official document.
That, Miss Claire, is a really big deal. It deserves all the public scrutiny that it is getting.

As a citizen of NYC, I do have a right to to demand that public employees, who I pay, are held accountable.

Yeah claire, pity the cyclist involved was an army vet - you happy about the NYPD smashing up vets are you? Me, I reckon vets have served their country and deserve respect and to be treated in a lawfull manner by police. Like the rest of us humans. The 'rule of law' is important to democracy and freedom. Demand it.

Pogan isn't a cop. he's a bully. you're typical product of the 90's, a militant style bully (soon to be ex) cop.

there are thousands of Pogans out there. This one got caught.

I agree ,as a NYC resident myself,I would have to say 75% of NYPD have the same mentality as Pogan.I've seen so many simple men get on the job, given a gun and badge and whoalah! all of a sudden instant tough guys.

There is nothing to say. The video is irrefutable. Under what circumstances is it ok to level someone with a billy club off their bike?

AND to lie about it in an official document just shows how much disdain this particular officer has for the people he is supposed to be "protecting and serving." and also shows the level of confidence he has that the investigating officers will not investigate his side of the story.

wow.

Ms. Claire, talk about going on a tangent. Why bring up Iraq? You're like that retard Miss Teen USA South Carolina who had no clue what she was talking about, only I'm guessing you're way less hot.

Lmfao. nice.

CLAIRE- you must stop giving prostate massage and hand jobs...and not just to fat cops that say you are smart and pretty.....too much blood going to your forearm muscles is preventing your brain from.....

While Claire's retort may have been weak, Fred's need to belittle women is just as bullying as Mr. Rookie Cop's need to bash innocent Vets. They aren't helpful or useful..

Just remember when all you wining bitches are being attacked or mugged. Oh my God I need a Cop!

Charlie,

So ,by your logic, we should have to put up with being assaulted by defective goons in order to expect the rest of the force to do it's job?

Now imagine the victim was black and imagine there was no video. LIFE OVER.

If there was no video of this, the cop's word would have been accepted, and no one with any power would care about the cyclist. How often do things like this occur, with no video?

The police aren't going to police themselves, so video them as much as you can! The people can't assert any power over the police if we don't even know what's happening. If police power is unchecked, it will be abused.

What about the other cop? As a witness she would have had to file a report or at least make a statement. I wonder if her story supported Pogan's story. If she did then she should be fired as well.

Someone should look into that.

this is hilarious all of you assholes..i am friends with pogan and have been for years ...you all just love to judge and gossip..nething can happen like this to any one of you were the situation is taken in completely different directions..everyone needs to get over it he was doing his job of course people are gonna say OMG he was crazy ..bc its drama and THE WORLD LOVES DRAMA..grow up

Holy shit! Friend- read your post; hell, have your friend Pogan read it (well, that probably wouldn't help)...maybe knock a cyclist down and ask them to read your comment and THEN...delete it. Even if you corrected the grammar, the syntax, and the lack of logic you're still left with no point. I have friends too (really!), and some of them do really stupid shit that is indefensible. If Pogan was my friend, even if the target changed (say its not a cyclist, but a dork on a Segway, or a bum with a shopping cart), I would still have to give great thought to my friend's stability. If Officer Pogan is not intelligent enough to come up with a better story than the cyclist ran into me, then he needs to find a different line of work. One that requires a hairnet is a good place to start, it will humble him (unlikely, but hey!). If he was doing his job he would have had a story, not made up the crack-head b.s. he reported.

Again, maybe we dont know the whole story, but we have the officer's report, the video and the cyclists story. Yeah, CM riders are a nuisance, one NYC has had a flip-flop stance on, but there is a right way and a wrong way to do things, and you and your friend ostensibly made it through puberty, so I have to assume that, natural selection prevailing, you are both aware that at no time is it OK to randomly pick out civilians (or veterans, or fellow cops, or resident aliens, or whoever you think shouldn't be where they are) and exact your fat aggression. I think a good metaphor for this incident would be: "A NYPD officer is in hot water after body checking and causing physical injury to one of sixty men found urinating in an alley last Friday night". Not an actual event, but again, there's just no good reason (since Officer Pogan couldn't remember/make up one in his arrest report) to do either. If he needed to be detained there should have been an attempt to get the guy to stop.

Sorry about the rant. It's late.

so i guess people would rather have some scrawny calm officers to patrol the streets and hopefully be able to take down the nig's and junkies that mug, shoot, and rape people every day in the city? Personally i would prefer to have strong, agressive, alert officers on patrol. By the looks of things, the officer would have really hurt the cyclist if he wanted too, but instead used tacticts learned in the acadamy. I hope my grammar is correct so the loser posting the comments doesn't have to correct it with his thesaurus in his left hand and his...... well, you get the point

you people can be angry and upset all you want but posting false information about Officer Pogan's personal life is just so immature and uncalled for it's not even funny. You are talking about how ridiculous his actions are while you are making up lies about him just to make yourselves feel better. Talking about his family and their taxes, his hometown, why he was probably angry, and his FACEBOOK is absolutely absurd especially because you made half up and the other half is opinions. Talk about facts, you are making him out to be a bully when you are just being hipocrits and doing the same thing right back. You are trying to make him sound like he is a loser and had only 5 friends on facebook when that couldn't be farther from the truth so now you just look like a loser.
What happened happened, theres no need to make shit up.

Kelly,

you are totally correct in saying "what happened happened". My statement (not that you directed your's towards me) was that the "facts" that the general public, including eveyone on this board, have is 1. the video (not entirely indicative of everything, but all we have at this point), 2. the cyclist's statements (opinion), and 3. the officer's statements (opinion). Now regardless of whether you have personal closeness with the officer, i find it hard to believe, given his version of the story, that the cyclist hit him. He gave no reason for the incident other than the cyclist attacked him. There is no way you can watch that video and see believe his story. No cyclist wants to hit a pedestrian, particularly a uniformed officer. It's not in anyone's interest. I'm no fan of calling cops pigs or critical mass in its current form, or NASCAR, or Ultimate Fighting, or many of hundreds of things that some people enjoy as a liberty. But as an outside reviewer of the evidence as it stands, Officer Pogan just flipped his lid (provoked by whatever) and supersceded his authority in protecting and serving. Now if the officer's story was something like he got a call that this particular cyclist had done something illegal (other than ride his bike in the road, which in this instance could be viewed as an infraction of traffic law, but no more so than any of the riders, and there is a much more humane way to intervene (you know there is), then yes, by all means, do whatever you need to do in order to arrest said individual. But if that was the case, don't you think this would be a none issue? If the guy deserved to be body checked off his bike (like he stole someone's purse, or raped an teenage boy whilst on his bike) then no one would be writing about Officer Pogan (negatively anyway). Loser or not before this incident, soon to be ex-officer Pogan is now a loser. And we can only hope that he learns from his error and some day can look back and say "wow, that was a really stupid and potentially life devastating decision". Mr. Pogan is a kid, and I hope he does learn from this, and not in the "how to better cover up random acts of authoritative aggression" kind of way.

John,

I am going to dignify your response with a response (though I doubt you deserve it, just my feeling).
I don't really care how our officers look, they can be buff or scrawny. Alert Im a big fan of, aggressive is even cool by me, particularly with potentially dangerous people. But where is there evidence that the cyclist was a threat of any sort??? was he seling hashish out of his backpack? Brandishing a weapon with his third hand?

The fact that the cyclist was not severely injured is a huge break for the officer. It was a pretty brutal check, and when your feet are strapped into pedals and your travelling at 15-20mph and are thrown off your bike into a curb, you generally don't get up without a broken collarbone or something of the like.
Now had he suffered a head injury i imagine the sympathizers of the police officer would say the cyclist should have worn a helmet, but that is a cop-out to (sorry for the pun, kinda). It's not against the law to ride without a helmet, like it's not against the law to have seatbelts in a classic period car. If you and a lot of other motorists were speeding and a cop t-boned you in your '43 buick and you suffered injury, the cop wouldn't get out of the violation just because had you had a seatbelt you MIGHT have emerged unscathed.

There were many ways the cyclist could have been arrested (still no evidence that he did anything deserving arrest). What Officer Pogan did was not on the list.

Re: john

...My my, what clever people we're dealing with

Is it just me or are people getting more and more retarded?

Hum...loaded question Henrietta. Depends on how you meant "people"; individuals or society(s)? I am hoping that the societal rate of retardation is constant and we have only increased the opportunity for flaunting it in the "digital age". But I am sure that, all things being equal, one can become more retarded if one were so inclined/ambivalent.

speaking of the possible increase of retardedness/stupidity:

it seems to me that it is a unique (though cyclical I'm sure) paradox that the most intelligent and creative individuals in the most recent generations are abstaining from having children as often than the median 20/30-something, and the individuals who should not be adding to the gene pool are doing so in numbers greater than the median (understandable a century ago but these kids aren't workin' the fields). We're on our way to a completely mediocratic state, and unfortunately, the standard of mediocrity is constantly falling.

If ever you two pull your head out your arses please come over to London with your Grrrrr tuff macho thug love and clean up our streets...you would probably last about a day...

Well put Kelly. I in no way condone what Officer Pogan did. he acted out of line, and obviously is and will be punished for it. his professional life is over. done at 22. but heres my point: what on god's green earth does that have to do with his hometown, family life, his PARENTS tax problems, home phone number or a public transportation system? this rant was absolutely the most nauseating thing i have ever read

I only know of the officer through the video, and am speaking as a resident of New York City. My previous post listed crimes commited, and STATISTICALLY the type of people that commit them. Thats how they refer to eachother is it not Ranger? birds of a feather

De un madero mil lapiceros.
La polla de un rockero para el culo de un madero.
De una madera una hoguera.

First of all, birds of a feather is the only real rebutle you have to my argument? I'm really surprised you didn't pick apart any spelling or gramatical errors I had. Also, whoever made the sexist comments to Claire you are disgusting and immature. The fact that you can't even retaliate with any real facts and have to try a belittle a woman just makes you look ten times worse then you are trying to make Officer Pogan out to be. The fact that you all sit here and make false accusations about his personal life is really just sad and I hope you can all get a life pretty soon because you all sound really interesting let me tell you. And I also feel really bad for the guy from London that your life consists of blogging about news going on in another country. The story just surfaced this week and nobody really knows exactly what happened that day so before you all go pointing fingers maybe you should all relax and maybe go out and enjoy your own lives instead of obsessing over this story.

I hope the incident completely destroys this bully's life.

I doubt it will happen, but he deserves to rot in jail til his youth is a memory. He falsified a report and accused a non-violent protester, who he assaulted, of a crime, all while serving as a police officer.

It is very common for police to behave like this and when one is caught red-handed he needs to be made an example of.

Any fellow officers who failed to report his actions should also be prosecuted just as sternly and aggressively as officer Pogan (this was witnessed by other officers, though only became a big deal after it was posted on youtube, right?)

I know when I saw the video I felt very very angry and I doubt very seriously that I'm the only one. Even if he loses his job, he's going to be looking over his shoulder for quite some time. I'll smile broadly if I someday read a story about him being found beaten within an inch of his life with a frame-pump shoved up his ass.

John, your statement "..take down the nig's and junkies that mug, shoot, and rape people every day in the city?" is ABSOLUTELY racist. No doubt about it. It must be hard to live among all of the people of color in this city. You should move out to Long Island, perhaps.

im in yur Manhattan, tapin yur flagrant civil rights violations! Also, massive lulz @ "The story just surfaced this week and nobody really knows exactly what happened that day so before you all go pointing fingers maybe you should all relax and maybe go out and enjoy your own lives instead of obsessing over this story" being written by someone who is sitting at a computer searchin' the tubes for mention of her precious fascist friend. "oh noes, they's bein mean to mah fascist!111!111"

Seriously, sweetheart, the Pogan clan and its misguided admirers need to spend less time worrying about people being mean to them on the interwebs and more time worrying about what's going to happen to little Pushy McPerjury here when he arrives in prison. Perhaps he will find consolation in philosophy; more likely, others will find consolation in him.

Oh dear, you really are in the wrong part of town Johnny boy. OK I guess you have confirmed my suspicions.

Shame.

There seems to be more and more of you guys everyday and your not getting any smarter. So you speak as a resident of New York "stating statistics". Well I could be wrong but I don't see any niggers or junkies in that video raping, killing, maiming, looting etc etc

But as your "statistics" so clearly point out percentages, ethnicity's, and demographics you, my learned friend must be somewhat of an academic within this field. So John, would I be correct in assuming the reason why some (I say "some" because gross generalization is never a clever thing to do) of your coppers use their "academy training" on 140lb. male caucasian cyclists is to stop them getting rusty when they go after the REAL bad guys??....hmmmm

Now whether "They" which "I" am, use certain wording is neither here, nor there, your using nigs as a derogatory term and think your being clever, end of. So the reason why I'm taking time out to address you is because we have skins in London, they wear their heart on their sleeve and swastikas on their back. I don't agree with what they do but they have got the fucking balls to walk through most areas flying their flag. Do the same, tomorrow when you go out, wear a t-shirt with "New York against Nigs and Junkies" scrawled on it and see how many of you fellow new yorkers honk for you.

Stand by your convictions, change your life and be somebody John.

And ta Kelly, I live in London but also work in New York & Paris sooooo no real need to feel sorry for me. The nets here to allow people (wherever their based) to comment and observe and, if needs be act on events from around the world. Just because New York's not my home doesn't mean to say I shouldn't be affected by what goes on there or be concerned for my family that reside throughout.

....let me break it down in simpler terms...As you have shown that your massively patriotic this analogy should hit home.

If it wasn't for the net or media coverage would you really "know" what's going on in Iraq?? or North Korea for that matter? I think not...

Now correct me if I'm wrong BUT I'm guessing you do not live in Mamoon, Baghdad or Pyongyang, yet I'm pretty sure you would give more then your tuppence worth if FOX or the net told you they were bad. I agree that people writing certain posts shouldn't have made crappy sexist comments but you should blatantly open your mind before your mouth...

Yours

Rancher

please publish claire's phone numbers so we may call her, too

i commute through the city streets daily. As a hispanic, it is now acceptable for my race to refer to african americans as nigs, i have done it many times to their face, as they also call me that. It is simply their way of trying to make the word lose its offensiveness. We do not know what happened previous to the video tape, but my point was that i have no problem with this rookie cop learning from whatever mistake he may have made and continuing duty. The city is a shitty place to work and the pay is low. Before you bring it up Rancher, yes... a large percentage of NY prison inmates are also hispanic so racism plays no part in this, and i don't think they let hispanics in the KKK, since most of us are Katholic. cheeeerios:)

hey Bucky ol' buddy ol pal. So what's you home phone #, street address and family history sice you pride yourself in posting that kind of info up? You are the coolest, seriously. So do you like go undercover with your talkboy and record whatever b.s you hear since all that info turned out to be wrong? Maybe you need to take some pointers from Mucauly on how to use that thing. Think and write carefully your name and address, maybe your workplace too. Your so cool we wanna know more about you...... bff

Ok John I'm not even gonna get cute here...because I don't think I'm getting through...

I know that Latinos, Mexicans, Dominicans (pretty much most minorities) are "down", We have a unique club that in some circles kinda evokes an "us against them attitude" I know that its widely accepted on how the term is used within certain dialogue, between friends, acquaintance's and so on...

HOWEVER BRO DON'T BE SLICK!!
YOU WERE TRYING IT!! SIMPLE AS!

At no point when you were talking about your statistics did you mention any other community, your post was aimed at the black community and junkies. And now look at you trying ta sugarcoat it, "its not about race", bore off, chump.

At no point did I tell you to join the KKK which doubly confirms your stupidity, I said stand by your convictions and commute so freely as you do wearing a T-shirt that says "New York against Nigs and Junkies" as you stated
"i have done it many times to their face" . chump.
This really shouldn't be a problem for you.

$20.00 you pussy out...take pics and I'll happily break you off a lil something.

sigh...

things got a little out of control in here. race and privacy issues aside, let's just think about what would have happened had this not been videotaped. that to me is the largest injustice. at least be honest about what happened, don't be a bully then blame the guy you knocked down.

I liked the post. Well done.

This guy IS a bully, a thug and everything else. He deserves to get snooped on.

As a Londoner I feel sorry for you New Yorkers that you have these uncivilized brutes as law enforcers and so-called protectors.

Mind you it's no surprise, every time I've been to NYC - the cops were rude, lazy and doing sweet fa (apart from this of course). London's Bobbies are Mary Poppins in comparison.

Keep riding.

i guess your talk about skins threw me off. I'm not trying to sugarcoat anything. In NYC hispanics are also referred to as nigs, and junkies are junkies. So now we have african americans, hispanics, and junkies which are mostly white but also other races. so where is the racism? I must be missing my own point. I was also under the impression that this blog was being used only by NYC citizens who would understand my "slang" instead of confusing it for racism. I'll wear the shirt for free rancher, is it alright if i write it big using a sharpie maker? I dont wanna spend money having a shirt made to shut you up. I understand if i'm not worthy of a response from you since you hold yourself at a higher level then us hispanics...... cheeerios. By the way hes not getting fired, my BLACK friend on the force has told me. I also love how ppl say that the officer will be flipping burgers. In the great state of New York all police must have a 2 year college degree, but many have attended college for atleast 3 years since you must be 21 to become a cop. I hope your not all still blogging 19 years and 11 months from now when hes retired. Please rancher, waste your time and criticize this all you want, its pretty funny coming home from work to see what idiots have gone above and beyond wasting their time responding to my b.s remarks.

Tragic, oh so so tragic. Sob, sniffle, sob...

What I regrets most about this whole sordid affair is the promising carer of a bright young rookie cop tragically nipped in the bud too too soon. Such a waste. Tis clear from the obviously doctored video that our hero officer Pogan learned to perform the fine art of committing gratuitous police brutality with an exceedingly high degreee of proficiency.
At the standard NYPD quota rate of 2 or 3 police brutalities per week, he would've committed at least 2000 heroic false arrests by the time he retired, magna cum lousy.

But now, thanks to this unfair, unwarranted, unpatriotic, tragically premature forced retirement, he'll have but a measly one single heroic false arrest to brag about to the future Patrick Pogan da Turd. And all because, just 3 weeks outta da rookie academy, panicstricken under deadly vicious attack by a mild mannered cyclist, our hero rookily forgot the most important lesson of all. "THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT GRATUITOUS POLICE BRUTALITY IN FRONT OF A FUCKING LIVE YOUTUBE CAMERA, FOOOL!!" And as Mariah so musically warns about the dangers of Youtubes, "I will hunt you down, suckah!"

Dear Missy Claire, Mr. John John, and dear dear proud Friend of rookie Pogan, please join with me in mourning the tragic premature demise of our stupid young hero, Officer Patrick Pogan da Second, shot down in the line of duty by a goddamned fucking stray video camera! Oh merciful Lord, why hath thou forsaken our steroid blessed young hero!? Sob... sob sob

"my BLACK friend" thats way too cool! People still say that?
Markers fine John. Post the snaps to stactician@hotmail.com annnnd your still chating shit bro...

Kind Regards

Rancher

THIS IS PLAIN AND SIMPLE:

The ROOKIE COP overreacted and used EXCESSIVE FORCE to body slam that biker off his bike.
He could have VERY EASILY simply grabbed onto the biker, and pulled him right off the bike... yet he chose to handle it how he did.

THE COP IS AT FAULT AND NEEDS TO SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCE.
He is the poster boy for asshole cops who do not and SHOULD NOT be carrying a badge and a gun. He is the type of cop who would end up unnecessarily shooting someone and taking a life without just cause.

Regardless of what the biker could have been doing, weaving in and out of traffic like the officer claimed in his report, he did NOT have to handle it that way.

The biker clearly tried to ride past the cops and was obviously not trying to hurry away from them. The cop is a piece of violent bully with poor judgement who is on a power trip.

Take his badge and gun and set an example. A line must be drawn and an example must be made.

It is funny how everyone in here seems to think Officer Pogan evil and all when the critical mass riders have been out of control themselves on more then one occasion. Yeah, I guess slashing an innocent person's tires, jumping on their cars, and breaking their windshields are all really admirable acts..they sound really nice and friendly. Also, many of you may not know but this Long guy is a big asshole and provoked the entire thing. Those officers were sent there to stop these riders and do what they had to do and I guess when some prick is riding around giving the cops the finger and screaming profanities at them that they are really minding their own busines. I will never have respect for the critical mass riders, they do illegal things all the time in these protests and Long deserved what he got.

Maybe the background check of this officer could have prevented the possible incident as this one. Just because a person has 2 generations of officers does not mean he will be a good officer. Pat Pogan was not your star student in high school or college. He was helped out of a few lawful incidences by his detective father. Anyone who knew him and is bravest enough to tell the truth will agree. As for Kelly tell the truth you were his girlfriend in high school and Charlie his best friend whose father was Pat's father's partner... Truth hurts. I has hope to see Pat turn around. His dad I am sure was exteremely proud of him for taking his badge number. It is a shame he p;aced shame on it. I am usually a police advocate. In this case, even personally knowing the Pogan family, I cannot agree with justice on his behalf. The Pogan family has held their heads high in the Massapequa Park community, at the expense of many people they have hurt. I for one. Unfortunatly I was a casualty of that families ill values

I hope Claire is really fucken hot, because that is one stupid bitch.

Oh Kelly Kelly Kelly

It's awesime that you know, not only rookie Pogan, but also cyclist Long, so intimately well, so intimately well as to know the exact size of cyclist Long's big bad asshole!! Wow!! Cain't hardly be a more reliable closeup eye witness than that. All of which uniquely qualifies you to best know who between thy two intimates is right and who is wrong without you even having to be there in heat that fateful night. So if you says that Cyclist Long is wrong.wrong fucking wrong, that be good nuff for me, baby.

But Kelly Kelly Kelly,
You still might wanna witness the following video from CW11 TV news and let the inconvenient contrarian testimonies shine in on your biased prejudiced closedup mind. You will witness the CW11 news reporter interviewing 3 or 4 on-the-scene eye witnesses of thy brave hero Pogan's rookie assault. Each and every one of these obviously lying eye witnesses maliciously lies that cyclist Long was doing nothing just prior to the incident to provoke or justify the merciful compassionate conservative behaviour of thy innocent hero, Patrick.

So without further ado,
here it is for your viewing enlightenment...

CW11 News Clip, Cop Body Slams Cyclist

After witnessing the news video, please let us know who ya gonna believe, your seething, smoldering, hate filled prejudices.. or your two big beautiful lying eyes.

Lawless, Brutal, Taser Happy Cops Threaten the Rule of Law

Mebbe if rookie Pogan woulda whipped out his big little Taser thingy instead,
he'd still be a member in good standing of our big bro Police State...

Did God bless you with more brawn than brains?
Does ya gets yo kicks outta kicking a little bottox for fun?
Become a fascist cop and kick a lotta bottox... legally!

Hey,
Im just posting this quickly so if your going to flame me for my lack of grammer or mispelling, please spare me. I live in Massapequa Park, its a damn nice town. Pat is 3 years older then me and i used to look up to him because he was an exceptional defensemen on the lacrosse team during some of the best years of our highschool's program. However it does not suprise me that something like this happened. Pat was a physical guy, a big motherfucking guy and he would hurt people on the field. Now thats not a bad thing because of the nature of the game but i can recall a fight that broke out after a lacrosse game where a mounted police officer was knocked from his horse, and Pat Pogan put a kid's head through a car windshield. Point is, he fucked up theres no denying it, but dont talk down about my town and the people who live in it... now excuse me as i bring down the intelligence of my remarks to adress the author. If you had any clue what the fuck you were doing you would know that Massapequa Park has its own bicycling club, that a major bike trail goes right through massapequa park and that a very large percentage of the families living in Massapequa Park use this trail as a weekend activity. Its not boring, and i would really like to see you come down off your high horse and drop your pretentious air of superiority. The truth is you were too fucking lazy to do some actual reporting and all you did was make an ass of yourself. So in short i would just like to conclude with this, to whoever wrote this go fuck yourself prick.

Like I said How did he get out of the felony like behavior before?

And these guy are suppose to protect us ... and this pig is still working behind a desk, if i did that i would be in jail ... i hate pigs.

I'm sure that somewhere deep down, Pat Pogan is actually a pretty nice guy. I mean, there are really very few true a-holes out there, but I think this attitude of slamming cyclists and beating the crap out of people is really a sign of poor leadership in the NYPD, City Hall, and the PBA.

If you want good cops, you have to pay them well. For this, I blame the PBA more than I blame Bloomberg. The city is bleeding money and running a deficit, but the PBA agreed to pay rookies squat so that 45-50 year old cops could retire with full pensions; speaking of which, the city should institute a "stop loss" incentive-based program to get experienced, good cops to stay on until they're closer to 60.

Also, the city should cut the number of cops by 10% but pay the ones left more money. They should also be forced to have more cops who walk or bike around neighborhoods patrolling. I live in C. Gardens, and the Union St. cops are always buzzing down local streets at 45-50 mph. I can't remember the last time I saw a cop on foot (they even patrol the park in their cars, driving around the basketball court!!).

No doubt that Pogan should lose his job, but he'll land back on his feet as a security guard or a bodyguard and do perfectly well for himself, but the city and NYPD really need to figure out a way to stop the thug-like attitude that is permeating the police more and more to the point that all new recruits learn from the bad eggs. Soon, there will be no more good cops left, just people trained to behave like thugs because they've been told they can.

Bucky, how dumb are you. You would actually post someone's phone number on you site for others to harass. That's really low class. I mean how can you go and call someone an animal and then post the personal and family info. . You are wrong Bucky and low class at best. How do you look at yourself in the mirror. Your parents, your family, never had any issues. i highly doubt that. Very low class, you've represented NY media very poorly.

Vic and Joe -

I happen to think that posting this information is completely appropriate. Police like Pogan and his ilk think they have the right to harass, demean and abuse ordinary citizens. As law-abiding citizens, one of our few weapons is the ability to use information-based tactics to make sure some power resides in the hands of the public and to show authority figures that they are being watched and held responsible for their actions.

If we were to not allow Animal New York to do this, we would be relegating ourselves to the same level and status as countries like China. Is that where you want to live?

The only people who like living in a police state are police or those in charge of the police, so I'd assume you're one of the two (or a Communist Party member)

Yea, Oddly enough I know the officer in the video...I went to elementary school with him. And I'm surprised to see in the 12 or so years since I last saw him, nothing has changed. He was a douchebag then and he is one now. I was carrying a project in the hallway, and he bodychecked me to the floor for no reason...apparently he still likes to do that. Good to see how he amounted to greatness. Once a bully always a bully I guess...but he got OWNED by youTube!

Looks pretty douchey as Neo724 attests.

Pogan is a GREAT guy....he is always a gentlemen....I graduated with him and played football with him and also a gym partner of his....All Pat wanted to do was be an officer of the law....what you reporters are doing is ridiculous...Pogan is a friend of everyone in not Massapequa but all over the Island....You all should quit these lame postings and get a LIFE!

"Pogan is a GREAT guy....he is always a gentlemen"

You mean apart from when he is assaulting innocent people and then lying about it in court? Sounds like an awesome guy... wish I had more friends like him.

If he has so many friends there in Massapequa, then he can stay there - he's not welcome in Manhattan anymore. Maybe he can find an elementary school out there and go beat on some 12 year olds. Or maybe a veteran's hospital, so he can go beat up on more army veterans to help his rock-solid personality and character.

Hopefully the only time we'll see him in NYC again is when he comes to serve jail time for a&b.

My contribution here aims for the folks that have not yet viewed this controversial video. Actually, not that controversial, just shocking.
Shocking in that a cop who is supposed to stand as a bulwark between good guys and the forces of lawlessness, could just blind side a bike rider. A male bike rider. A caucasian, male bike rider. This kind of white on white crime is deplorable and is a leading cause of lawsuits cluttering up our judicial system.
Understand, my dear non-viewers. This bike rider was doing nothing wrong, was not blocking traffic, in this country illegally or a minority. He was just a white bike rider having fun and getting some exercise when that caucasian bully in blue took him out.
My comments aren't meant to sway, persuade or shock, but rather to elucidate the rampant non racism that adds a confounding twist on so much of the crime we see today.

If he's not fired then there is no hope for the USA. Fire the bastard.
