Illuminate This
This fall will see the US release of Bible Illuminated: The Book, an illustrated Bible outfitted with provocative photography. Take, for example, Revelation, which features a photo of a man on fire. The project came from the mind of Dag Söderberg, a Swedish ad man who aims to turn the Book into a hip, relatable, coffee-table book kind of Bible. The American release will be of the New Testament; according to the site, it'll look like a "264-page glossy magazine" and "[aims] to be less intimidating than traditional bibles." A Swedish-only version of the Old Testament has a tight shot of two people about to tongue each other on the cover. (Apparently, sex sells even the word of God.) Previously, Söderberg headed up one of the biggest ad firms in Europe. Of the book's US debut, GalleyCat reports: "[W]hile Söderberg's stated mission has been non-religious, it's said that talks are underway with 'a major evangelical figure' to act as a spokesman for the book, aimed at cushioning criticism from evangelical circles of the book's glossy photo layouts."
