Next Spring, You Might Be Paying $125 For A Monthly MetroCard

In an attempt to raise an extra $232 million per year, the MTA is considering four different proposals for subway fare increases, allowing the pubic to provide input on which is used. The first option would leave the single ride fare at $2.25, raise the price of a monthly pass to $125, and raise the price of a weekly pass to $34; the second would raise the monthly pass price to $119, the weekly to $32, and decrease the per-ride bonus from seven to five percent. Two other plans would increase the price of a single ride to $2.50. No matter which plan passes, it will go into effect March 1.

“This time you’re getting all the information we get. There’s nothing up anybody’s sleeve,” MTA board member Fernando Ferrer told CBS. “This is all cards on the table. I think this is the way we should treat our riders.”
