NYC Teens Are Having Less Sex Than Ever Before

April 6, 2015 | Liam Mathews

Don’t worry, lonely teen, it’s not just you: a poll by the federal Centers for Disease Control found that the percentage of New York City teenagers who report having had sex has decreased from 37.8% of respondents in 2011 to 31.2% in 2013, the New York Post reports. This percentage is the lowest since the biannual survey began in 1997, and way down from 51% in 2001. The poll finds that only one in five teens say they’ve had sex in the past three months.

The Post claims that teens are abstaining more. Abstention is an admirable choice. But, hey, teens, you can be honest with us. You just don’t know how to talk to each other anymore, what with all the sexting and the Snapchat and the instant messages and whatnot. Or maybe teenagers are just less teenager-y than they used to be. They’re like miniature adults, only having sex every three months. We feel you, teens.
