Police Shoot and Kill Stabbing Suspect In Brooklyn Synagogue

December 9, 2014 | Rhett Jones

Police responding to the stabbing of an Israeli student in a Brooklyn synagogue shot and killed the suspect after he refused to drop a knife, reports the Daily News. The man, identified as Calvin Peters, reportedly screamed, “I want to kill the Jew!” when he re-entered the basement of the Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters early Tuesday. Peters reportedly stabbed 22-year-old student Levi Rosenviat in either the neck or the side of the head.

After a stand-off with members of the synagogue, which was caught on video, an officer is seen with his gun drawn and he instructs the man to drop the knife. The man argued before placing the knife on a chair, but according to the video it seems he picked it up again moments later. One officer is heard yelling, “Stay the fuck away from the knife now,” before a single fatal shot is fired.

The suspect died in Kings County Hospital at 3:15AM according to police. The student victim remains in stable condition at the same hospital.
