Scaffolding Takes Over Bowery Wall

June 30, 2014 | Bucky Turco

Someone went over COPE2’s Bowery Wall mural, but this time it wasn’t a writer seeking fame. It was Goldman Properties, who owns the spot.

This weekend, Goldman Properties erected scaffolding in front of the entire wall, to prepare for construction at the former location of Billy’s Antiques. Plans indicate that the new building will be 28 feet high, with 2,928 square-feet of commercial space. It is unclear whether additional art will go up while construction is going on or what will happen to the Os Gêmeos mural that has been encased beneath the current wall, but a source tells us that it may be preserved and that ultimately, the wall will once again be used to showcase artists.
