Shia LeBeouf Will Be Doing Some Kind Of Jogging Performance At A Museum

September 23, 2014 | Rhett Jones

Shia LaBeouf continues his foray into art and/or nervous breakdown.

On September 8th, LaBeouf began tweeting his nike+ jogging routes. Each of the thirteen routes formed a character or letter and when they’re all combined they spell out #METAMARATHON. Yesterday, he tweeted “#METAMARATHON at the @Stedelijk Amsterdam 09.25.14.”

What does it all mean? The only other clue is his definition of “run” as “to move swiftly on foot – to PROCESS or execute a PROGRAM or instruction – an unbroken series of PERFORMANCES.”

The Stedelijk Museum’s website just says he “will embark upon a metamarathon around the perimeter. Visitors are invited to participate. Running shoes optional.” So he’ll probably just be running around the museum, the meta part of the performance possibly being that “running” means more than one thing. We really can’t blame this on him — artists Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Luke Turner keep working with him on these things and could be accused of taking advantage of his celebrity.

LaBeouf has been doing various projects that resemble art for a little while now. He thought he was an appropriation artist. He made a pretend snuff film. He cried with a paper bag on his head in a Marina Abramović-inspired piece. Besides just acting kind of weird for a movie star, he also famously tried to steal a homeless man’s McDonald’s bag back in June (hence the public meltdown theory.)

Until we find out what the whole thing’s about on the 25th, here’s the definitive list of the best celebrities who were tricked by the art world into thinking they’re artists, in order from best to worst:

1. James Franco
2. Bob Dylan (Richard Prince)
3. Miley Cyrus
4. Joaquin Phoenix
5. George W. Bush
6. Macaulay Culkin
7. Shia LaBeouf
8. Jay-Z
