Siri Won’t Help You Hide Your Victims’ Bodies Anymore

August 13, 2014 | Marina Galperina

In Florida, Pedro Bravo is standing trial for the murder of former friend Christian Aguilar, who had started dating his ex-girlfriend. After missing for weeks, his body was found buried in a shallow grave in Levy Country.

According to the Gainesville Sun and Palm Beach Report, on September 20, 2012 — the day the victim disappeared — the accused told iPhone’s Siri “I need to hide my roommate,” and Siri jokingly responded “what kind of place are you looking for? Swamps. Reservoirs. Metal foundries. Dumps.” Bravo allegedly went with woods.

UPDATE: The screenshot presented in court was not actually taken by the suspect, but instead was discovered in the cache of images he viewed via Facebook, so it’s actually impossible that he had conducted the search himself, having a different cellphone carrier than displayed in the screenshot and a version of iPhone that doesn’t even do Siri at the time. Since this morning, WPIX had severely edited their prior coverage of this “for clarity.” WUFT tracked down the detail as having originated on Action News Jax. It’s messy and places even more doubt on the validity of “evidence” obtained via smartphone and Facebook warrants during investigations.

Nonetheless, looks like Siri’s overlords appear to have taken care of such confusion on their end, if it even existed. Buzzfeed just tried asking Siri the same question, and now Siri is all like “I’m sorry,” but we tried a few other things and she’s still pretty helpful. Forgetful, but helpful. Kind of.

Siri isn’t going to tell you this, but according to the reports, iPhone and Verizon map usage and other records are being used as evidence. The police tracked Bravo’s movements via cell phone tower data. His flashlight app was turned on for 48 minutes the day of the alleged murder, and the iPhone flashlight app can be pretty handy when doing things in dark. Like burying bodies. Allegedly. (Images:  Palm Beach Report, ANIMALNewYork)
