So James Franco Has A Band Now, And It’s Called “Daddy”

Because of course he does! Why wouldn’t Renaissance man Franco have a Motown-influenced band with a spoken-word-heavy lead single and a press photo featuring the actor-cum-writer-cum-artist-cum musician looking stoned in pink lipstick and a Rolling Rock trucker hat? Daddy’s debut EP, MotorCity, will be released Tuesday, and sports a polaroid of Franco’s Spring Breakers co-stars Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine as cover art.

The weirdest part? Daddy’s first single, “Love In The Old Days,” isn’t half bad. It isn’t particularly interesting, either–it sounds like a cross between Gorillaz’ Dennis Hopper-featuring “Fire Coming Out of a Monkey’s Head” and the hippie-dippie vibes of Edward Sharpe–but it’s easy enough to vibe out to. We’re having trouble embedding it at the moment, so you’ll have to head to Stereogum to listen for now.

UPDATE: We found a 7 For All Mankind spot from March that uses “Love In The Old Days” as a soundtrack, so apparently the project’s been in the works for at least a little while.
