Surrealist Landscapes Composed Entirely From Human Bodies

July 29, 2013 | Julia Dawidowicz

The work of UK-based Carl Warner brings us back to the pre-Photoshop days, where all it took was a camera, everyday objects, and some imagination to produce a truly otherworldly photograph. It’s no surprise that Warner cites Dali as one of his influences:  his series “Bodyscapes” seems to borrow the idea of flesh as medium from works like “Human Skull Consisting of Seven Naked Women’s Bodies” to create his vast, dreamlike desert expanses that scream surrealism.

The human curves and crevices in some photos are more recognizable than in others. Until you become oriented, looking at Elbow Point and Pectoral Dunes almost feels like gazing at some perverse deformity. Very cool.
