Artists Think Inside the Box at Brooklynite Gallery

Inspired by the challenge of earning cash in this economic crisis, Brooklynite Gallery is opening an exhibition inspired by “the world’s simplest way to make a living,” shining shoes. “Go Get Your Shinebox” brings together more than a hundred artists, including Skewville, Ben Frost, Miss Bugs, Aiko and Broken Crow, showcasing their cubic works, a “survival box” for getting by. AIKO Puts Empty Cans of Paint Up For Sale

Though not originally for sale, collectors can now buy the installation of used up paint buckets and spray cans in AIKO’s “Love Monster” show at Joshua Liner Gallery. The hand-papered, painted and stenciled paint cans are $120 to $200, and more for the sets that stack up “to form a totem of her ‘M Madam’ and ‘Bunny’ images”. AIKO Unleases Her ‘Love Monster’

Tomorrow, AIKO brings her sexually charged, sometimes pornographic artwork to Chelsea for “Love Monster,” her first solo show at Joshua Liner Gallery. Born in Tokyo and based in Brooklyn, AIKO has been evolving as a solo artist since leaving street artist collective FAILE in 2006. She continues mixing both American and Japanese culture, attacking the canvas with a mixture of methods from collage and paint to stencils and silkscreens.
