The multifaceted, shape shifting, image collaging street artist known as MOMO released this short video detailing some of the public fun he specifically created for the good people of New Orleans.

Alongside Henry Chalfant, photojounalist Martha Cooper has been at the forefront of shooting the emergence of graffiti. She describes how it all began:
“One day a young boy said to me: ‘why don’t you photograph graffiti?’ He opened his note book and showed me his drawings. The minute I understood that there was a systematic designing and painting on the wall I became fascinated.”

Swizz Beatz must have been really high or just not cared in this interview with Vandal Arts, offering a strange explanation for never writing graffiti when he was younger, despite his fascination with it, citing the costs: “I never really had access to the spray cans and the fat caps and all that stuff, like, I didn’t have no money like that.” Yeah, cause all those writers bombing the trains and later the streets were rolling in cash. They were likely racking paint too, it’s pretty much ritual. (Fast forward to the 3:44 mark for interview and to avoid obnoxiously long intro.)

There’s no rest for the weary or the street art obsessed at Jet Set Graffiti. After just releasing an interview with Invader (pt. 1 & 2), they sent word of this discussion with street writing poet and artisan Elbow Toe. Despite the ridiculous name, which he admits was an attempt to out do Neck Face in silliness, his art is well received by public art aficionados. In the clip he explains, with a very funny mask on, his process and inspiration, some of which stems from Jungian psychology and his love of myth. The folks over at Jet Set kept their word. After releasing a video of Invader discussing
his ‘Binary Code’ project, they dropped another one of the artist describing his ‘Rubix Cubism’ series that nicely bridges the work he puts out on the streets versus the art he creates for galleries. Unlike his traditional tile creations, Invader switches up mediums and used actual Rubik’s Cubes. But as the artist notes, he didn’t cheat and use the crappy ones that you can just peel the stickers off.

The French street artist known for creating Space Invader inspired characters out of ceramic tiles and installing them in cities around the world, is currently working on a new project. In this clip from the gang at Jet Set Graffiti, Invader describes his ‘Binary Code’ series that, ironically, looks like QR Code. In contrast to his previous work, these pieces offer a slight level of interaction. The black and white mosaics can be decoded by way of a camera equipped cell phone and a mobile tagging application called BeeTagg—although the software appears to be compatible with several phones the artist specifically mentions the application for the iPhone.

“In an effort to dive deeper into HCI (Human Computer Interaction) by hacking together parts easily acquired, I set out to build something especially “non-computery” – introducing the Interactive Mirror,” writes one of the inventors of the “patent pending touch capable mirror.” The display reminds us of technology the Graffiti Research Lab has been pioneering, but with its own original and colorful twist. While the McCain camp might have Joe-the-manipulative-pseudo-Plumber who may or may not EVER buy his boss’ company and will end up benefitting under the Democrats tax plan anyway, the Obama side has “Eddie the Street Artist.” When he’s not taking shots at Nike and the Olympics or donating art to the Manifest Hope Gallery during the DNC, he’s hitting the streets. Watch as the socialist democracy spreading artist provides his presidential candidate with a whole bunch of free publicity.

Installation artist Banksy caused quite a stir in NYC recently with his outsourced murals and latest pet shop project. The design obsessed kids over at Notcot assembled filmmaker Seth Brau and shot some really good video of the artist’s animatronic Village PetStore & Charcoal Grill in the West Village.
