A Chase branch in Northern California with holdings that include a building rented to the Marin Alliance for Medical Marijuana, received a letter from U.S. Attorney Melinda Hagg warning the bank that the government can swoop in and take their assets.

And not just the property. The strongly worded correspondence also said that “any money JPMorgan Chase Bank receives or has received may also be subject to seizure and forfeiture.” Additionally, this particular dispensary is facing pressure from the IRS.

How come the DEA wasn’t invited to the party? Maybe this represents a switch in tactic by government that doesn’t include lots of guns, kicked down doors and handcuffs? Feels like it.

Did you see the Frontline special on the multiple ways banks fleece their customers last night? Did it not make you want to just pull all your money from the banks and keep it under the mattress or something? I did! Well, a small measure of revenge has been laid down by a New York judge who basically gave a Long Island couple a free house after they were dicked over by a bank. Oh, and a judge in Pittsburgh awarded a man $50k for flipping off a cop. WTF?

Yes, America’s courts must be in the holiday spirit these days, as they’re suddenly looking out for the little guy in a big way. First, the bank smackdown:

Suffolk Judge Jeffrey Spinner wiped out $525,000 in mortgage payments demanded by a California bank, blasting its “harsh, repugnant, shocking and repulsive” acts.

The bombshell decision leaves Diane Yano-Horoski and her husband, Greg Horoski, owing absolutely no money on their ranch house in East Patchogue.

Spinner pulled no punches as he smacked down the bankers at OneWest — who took an $814.2 million federal bailout but have a record of coldbloodedly foreclosing on any homeowner owing money.

And if that wasn’t reason enough to stand up and cheer, the city of Pittsburgh must pay $50,000 to a man who was issued a citation for flipping off a cop, a move a judge said violated the man’s right to free speech.

David Hackbart, 35, a paralegal formerly from Regent Square, and the American Civil Liberties Union sued the city after an incident in 2006 in which Mr. Hackbart gave the finger to a driver in Squirrel Hill and then gave the finger to Sgt. Brian Elledge, who then cited him for disorderly conduct.

U.S. District Judge David Cercone ruled in March that Sgt. Elledge violated Mr. Hackbart’s First Amendment right to free speech.

Sweet. Excuse me while I go out to flip off a cop. PAY ME!
