Be Careful When Selling Your Car

You could end up stuffed in the trunk. That what happened to Akeem Ajimotokan when he attempted to sell his 2008 BMW M3 to a man who was identified as ex-con Barion Blake thanks to a bill of sale found in the car. Shockingly, Craigslist wasn’t involved and police are still investigating according to the New York Times. Ajimotokan is recovering in a hospital and cops are looking for Blake.

After scheming and sketch-teasing, Jeff Koons finally reveals his BMW Art Car. Diligently wrapped in vinyl stickers by assistants, the streaky car’s best attribute is it bumper: It’s on fiyah! Pew pew! Like lasers and stuff.

But seriously, it doesn’t look nearly as tacky as expected. It’s aero- and aesthetically dynamic. See the video below. “I want my idea of it means to be able to contribute to this transcend with the car,” says Koons. Also: points at stuff, watches elves weld.

BMW Bomb Scare Doubles As Great Viral Marketing

A BMW marketing manager—of course—left his prototype SUV running with a tarp over it near the Museum of Natural History over the weekend and not surprisingly it caused a bomb scare. Parts of Central Park West were closed down as the NYPD’s bomb squad moved into to inspect the vehicle. They smashed out the windows and determined it wasn’t a threat.

The owner of the BMW was out frolicking about in Central Park and reportedly didn’t know he left it running or as the Post reports in this perfectly placed soundbite: “[I]t runs so silently that he didn’t even notice it was still on when he left, a source said.”

Ta-da! Jeff Koons’ art car design for BMW has arrived. Looks like it’s projectile vomiting rainbow strobes or going gay at light speed. Needs more bling!

Apparently Koons knows a little about cars and aerodynamics or what not, as he sold hot dogs and sodas at drag strip as a teenager: That explains the lack of expected steel bunny balloon ears. Inspired by the checkered flag, Koons hopes his art car wins when it eventually races at Le Mans in June. It’s sure to get beat up a bit, but he doesn’t mind.

Last year, the BMW Art Cars dipped into corny capitalist ploy territory, slanting away from its 1970s roots when Calder, Warhol, Lichtenstein and Rauschenberg created works of art and not fancy commercial fodder, and just now Jeff Koons has been selected to bastardize this year’s arty auto.

Having recently rediscovered himself as a car lover, Koons is “honored” and is probably cobbling together something irksome to both art critics and car enthusiasts, fit for Pimp My Ride: Circus-Circus, and very large with bunny-shaped airbags. And so, while the ghost of the US auto industry is wailing and wasting away, BMW President Jim O’Donnell is ready to gold-plate and stick some metal balloons all up in that elegant grill. Hardy-har-har, Germany.

Everybody BamBrand! Actually, I’m surprised more automakers haven’t shamelessly jumped on the Cash For Clunkers marketing opportunity. In fact, they all should write pleading, hyperbolic ad letters to President Green Jeans—I’m sure he has plenty of leisurely reading time worked into his schedule these days. I’m also sure cash-strapped Americans are just itching to put an overpriced luxury car in their driveway—the lowest-priced Beemer is the One Series which retails for about 30 grand. “The time has officially come.” What hooey. BMW Kings Audi In Billboard War

After Audi bought a prominent billboard on Santa Monica Blvd. showcasing their new A4 with the tagline, “Your Move, BMW,” the Bavarian car maker responded in kind. BMW bought space on an even bigger billboard featuring their famed M3 and simply answered: “Checkmate.” |BMWBlog via Buzzfeed|

BMW Retreads Art Cars Exhibit

Dating back to the late 1970s, BMW began commissioning a series of “Art Cars” featuring the work of art world heavyweight artists like Andy Warhol, Frank Stella (pictured above), Roy Lichtenstein, and Robert Rauschenberg among otherrs. Although the cars have been on display before and documented exhaustibly for the past three decades, for the first time they will be exhibited in the United States. The vehicles will make their way to Grand Central Terminal in NYC from March 25th – April 7th.

BMW Hits A Wall

Have you seen BMW’s Pure Graffiti Wall? It’s a website and although there’s nothing “Pure” about it and no real “Graffiti,” it’s still quite an entertaining ride. Not so much for the nicely done submissions, but rather the off color ones, which to Beamer’s credit, they don’t seem to police too much. Still, it’s a far cry from this project involving art.
