<p>Seven people are dead and at least twenty more wounded by gunfire after a gunman, or possibly <em>gunmen</em>, believed to be holed up in a building opened fire on unsuspecting soldiers and civilians at Ft. Hood, the largest military base in the world situated about 60 miles northeast of Austin, Texas. SWAT teams have captured one shooter and are currently swarming the area searching for other suspected shooter(s). <p><strong>UPDATE 4:51PM:</strong> MSNBC is reporting that 9 are now confirmed dead with up to 30 injured and that the first suspect captured is an Army Major with an &#8220;Arabic-sounding name.&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>UPDATE 4:55PM:</strong> According to the U.S. military, two suspects have been captured and one has been killed. All are/were soldiers. 12 are now confirmed dead.</p>
<p><strong>UPDATE 6:20PM:</strong> CNN reports that the shooter killed today, Major Malik Nadal Hasan, is a doctor who specialized in &#8220;mental health services.&#8221;</p>

A flotilla of boats is surrounding what&#8217;s left of the plane as the current continues to move it swiftly downtown along the Hudson. The man is reported to be about 1/3 of the way up. Just hours earlier, the <a href="http://animalnewyork.com/wp-content/uploads/archive/news/2008/06/french-spiderman-scales-the-ne.php">French Spiderman climbed to the top</a>, amidst lots of fanfare, and was arrested after climbing 52 stories. From what we hear authorities have cordoned off the area and news trucks are already on the scene. As soon as we get some images we&#8217;ll be posting. Apparently the <em>Times&#8217;</em> building has become the new staging ground for publicity-stunting artists and activists. He identified himself as Renaldo Clarke of Brooklyn and was wearing a t-shirt with the word &#8220;malaria&#8221; printed on it.</p>

Perfect if you needed some kindling for that late afternoon BBQ or if you finally decided to build yourself that flimsy shelf you&#8217;ve always wanted at least somewhere in your apartment.
