Vintage MTA Buses Tour Queens

This weekend vintage MTA buses were dusted off and touted around Rockaway Park as part of one of MTA’s summer events. Reddit user boxofrain was on hand for the event and snapped some cool shots. The MTA’s website said that the tour was “generally not appropriate for young children or babies in strollers.” Huh? MTA Providing a False Sense of Security

Although the MTA has been planning on outfitting city buses with surveillance cameras for a while now, the cash strapped agency is using the recent, highly publicized beating of one of its drivers, to aggressively pursue that goal. This week, transit officials announced they’ll be installing the expensive devices in hundreds of buses to keep employees safer, which of course is bullshit. Read more »

Escape New York For $1

And you all thought the Fung Wah bus was a good deal. To hype a new twice-daily bus service from New York to Toronto ingeniously titled “NeOn,” one-way fares are being offered for a dollar. The upside: Each bus sports free Wi-Fi, TVs for DVDs, and power outlets. The downside: It’s a 10-hour drive and the $1 ticket is not roundtrip. Still sound doable? Book it through Greyhound. |BudgetTravel|
