Although New Yorkers scored a small victory now that city-sanctioned vandalism on vehicles which aren’t moved during street cleaning has been outlawed, a new research paper from NYU suggests that even slight changes to the current alternate side parking laws could greatly benefit the environment and cut down on the amount of greenhouse gases in the city. Finding a parking spot in New York CIty can be so taxing sometimes and since tearing fire hydrants out of the sidewalk, here’s a much easier tactic: Rip down a “No Standing” sign like this driver did (around the 3:30 mark) near the Atlantic Yards. Boom. Problem solved.
Midtown Manhattan is the most dangerous and likely place in the entire city for pedestrians to be hit by cars according to Transportation Alternatives’s newly overhauled Crashstat website. Between 1995 and 2009, there was 8,604 vehicular crashes with walkers. That’s almost twice as much as second place finisher, Jamaica, Queens, which totalled 4,741. This is what it would look like. Germany’s version of West Coast Customs is responsible for this leather-covered Mini Cooper peppered with a knock off Louie Vuitton pattern. CoverEFX hand glued the gold decals giving it that authentic pocketbook look. Apart from its gaudiness, the skull and crossbones are a handsomely ironic touch. Read more »

In addition to letting KR cover their car in drips, Mini solicited a slew of other artists to render their Cooper unusable. Graffiti writers SEAK, SMASH137 and EURO were photographed slathering the new cars with paint. The results have been compiled in Mini’s “Wash Me,” a Swiss-published book of ten artists’ vehicular vandalism. However, the results were eventually power washed away, making for a particularly impermanent promotion as compared to KR’s Krink-stained piece. |I Love Graffiti|
