And this has Brooklyn College really pissed off, since it was taking place on their campus!

The faculty voted to condemn the nefarious collaboration because, according to the resolution they drafted, the “cultivation of police informers on campus has a chilling effect on the intellectual freedom necessary for a vibrant academic community.” It’s also highly illegal for the CIA to spy on its citizens, even if those citizens happen to practice Islam. Now the the spy agency’s inspector genreal is figuring out whether or not they were breaking any laws by working in tandem with the the nation’s largest police force.

The main legal issue here is that it’s against the law to spy on any U.S. citizen. Obama’s counterterrorism advisor, John Brennan, has said that they haven’t done that. But having mosque crawlers and informants who just hang out in mosques, sounds like just that.

The U.S. director of national intelligence, James Clapper said this week, “It’s my own personal view that that’s not a good optic, to have CIA involved in any city-level police department. But I think CIA is going to address that.” Yeah its not a good optic, because its illegal for the country to spy on its own citizens.

According to investigative journalist Matt Puzzo, the New York’s Finest has close working relationships with international intelligence agencies as far flung as Lyon and Tel Aviv.

But what they’re doing at home is a lot scarier than just having friends in faraway places.

Puzzo describes the task force known as rakers. Emphasis ours:

“They have teams of undercover officers, they’re known as rakers, who basically just troll ethnic neighborhoods. One officer described it as mapping the human terrain of New York. They also have informants known as mosque crawlers, who as the name indicates, just sort of hang out in mosques, being the eyes and ears of the police department inside the mosques.”

All of the New Yorkers interviewed in the piece said that they were okay with the NYPD’s controversial efforts if they kept NY safe. We’re guessing those people weren’t the ones who had their religious spaces infiltrated by secret police.

The artist promised to leak an important clue to the New York Times shortly.

The sculpture is currently roosting outside the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, mocking them mysteriously. It says something about something invisible and important hidden somewhere. Find out what before it’s lost forever. “I don’t have that many decades… left in me,” Sanborn said.

Despite this overwhelming evidence, the CIA disagreed and in the years following 9/11, was busy playing three-card monte with detainees at “black sites” outside the borders, and more importantly, the laws of the Unites States reports the AP.

They were then subjected to “enhanced interrogation” methods in various secret prisons in other countries. They were specifically moved from Guantanamo to keep them from getting all lawyered up by the Supreme Court or for that matter, their very existence acknowledged.

If you just can’t bring yourself to believe that President George Bush and his blood thirsty war cronies could be involved in letting the events of 9/11 unfold to rally the citizens under a common cause and set the military industrial complex into overdrive, you might want to read up on “ Operation Northwoods” as outlined in this declassified document: “Justification for U.S. Military Intervention in Cuba.” There couldn’t be a more fitting item to read on the 7th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania. Many like to argue that the government just couldn’t be so evil as to attack its own people, but if you read the plan devised by the CIA, it might give you another perspective to the peculiarities surrounding the 9/11 attacks. Keep in mind, Operation Northwoods isn’t some abstract rogue memo or some Pale Horse styled, Illuminati laden conspiracy theory, it’s an actual document (PDF here) that outlines striking American interests. Read about how planes would be hijacked, shot down, and evidence disappeared. ABC news reported on it a few months before September 11th, 2001 and here’s how journalist James Bamford described the shadowy plot in his book Body of Secrets:

“Operation Northwoods, which had the written approval of the Chairman and every member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, called for innocent people to be shot on American streets; for boats carrying refugees fleeing Cuba to be sunk on the high seas; for a wave of violent terrorism to be launched in Washington, D.C., Miami, and elsewhere. People would be framed for bombings they did not commit; planes would be hijacked. Using phony evidence, all of it would be blamed on Castro, thus giving Lemnitzer and his cabal the excuse, as well as the public and international backing, they needed to launch their war.”

Think about that next time you shoot down theories about WTC’s 1, 2, and 7. Happy 9/11!
