Here’s the newest video from Pogo with the silly gurgle of Disney princess cut-up into jazzy little vocal blips and beats. It’s hypnotic, as usual, but is he risking getting sent to YouTube’s Copyright School? Read more »
Patti Smith for Disney as a Pirate by Annie Leibovitz

Well, Patti Smith did tell all young artists to get out of New York and “find a new city,” so let’s set sail to Disneyland, arrr! Annie Leibovitz is working her way out of debt with this latest series of Disney Park ad portraits. The Pirate Patti and Johnny Depp insert will run in May’s Oprah Magazine, Real Simple, InStyle and People. Read more »
Here’s the 1937 animated tale of a pale chick and seven old diamond-digging dudes, cut up into a beat by YouTube’s remix artist Pogo. The hours-fresh Wishery vid uses the olde toon’s sound effects, vocal syllables, chords and grunts only. It will make your Thursday merry or give you nausea, depending on your Disney tolerance.
Vinyl surgeon Jason Freeny reveals Mickey Mouse’s anatomy for his ongoing series of stripped down, one-off sculptures and surprisingly, its corporate innards aren’t nearly as grisly as some might have expected. He’s previously operated on the likes of Mario, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, and My Little Pony, among others.
Kaws, an artist who used to reappropriate images from major corporations without their permission, collaborates with them now instead, just like other streetwear brands. His latest partnership is with Disney and for me, like graffiti writers painting legal walls, there’s something weak about obtaining permission from the companies that should be getting knocked-off. Then again, if his art basically consists of putting an X on someone else’s character, maybe it’s the only way for him to make work? |High Snobiety|
This cartoon fashion spread for April’s Elle Spain was done by the characters’ usual handler – Ulrich Schröder, Disney freelancer since 1989. Which, in retrospect, is a much better idea than Paramount’s handing off characters to some cooky-cokey ad-guy who thinks Donkey sex is interesting.
Because who still wants “a couple of white middle-aged guys sitting around talking about movies”? Since the original duo of Siskel and Ebert, Disney’s ‘At the Movies’ had a partner-swapping go at “callow moronism” and “enlightening professionalism,” but ultimately proved inconsequential. Film criticism is niftier by way of YouTube DIY anyway, be you a Twilight-hating “Angry Black Man,” Burton-babbling Brit or horny Russian babushka.

Here’s a trailer for a Disney-produced Disney documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty about the company’s colossal comeback period of 1984-1994, in case you wanted to see a young Timmy Burton zoning out or a hopped-up suit pitching the Little Mermaid, complete with crab drum solo imitations. Read more »
Yup! Watch Ghostface discuss his cameo in Disney movie When In Rome that even had fellow Wu elder Raekwon surprised. But don’t get it twisted, we’re not talking about some sort of animation or Pixar production, way worse, it’s a “chick flick.” Adding to this comic tragedy, he says he didn’t watch it, was hardly paid, and didn’t even know how to DJ, which incidentally, is the role they cast him for. |Nah Right|
It’s refreshing to see at least one company mock Mickey Mouse and not collaborate with the famous rodent’s evil overlords like so many streetwear brands have done. The design—that Disney is sure to hate—was created by Another Enemy and can be found here. |Likecool|
