So, that BFD tee being sold by the DNC? The first shipment already sold out and according to a spokesman it could do better than Apple’s buzzy new gadget: “They are selling faster than iPads will this weekend.”

DNC Finally Figures Out How To Make Use of Joe Biden

Sarah Palin isn’t the only politico that knows how to capitalize off of her gaffes. Instead of shunning Vice President Biden’s foul language during the signing of the health care bill, the DNC decided to do monetize it by way of a t-shirt. Design wise, it’s definitely cleaner (and classier) than the original.

Denver Cops Give Code Pink Protester A Code Red

Looks like the Denver police are taking cues from the NYPD and using a political convention in town as the perfect reason to overreact against mostly peaceful protesters. In this clip, a cop dressed in full riot gear violently knocks down a Code Pink protester with his baton. The woman turned out to be Alicia Forrest. After she regained her composure and started talking to reporters, police swooped back in, dragging the woman away and arresting her. |RMN|

Liberal Culture Jammer Rescues MLK From Conservative Idealogues

The above billboard was paid for by the National Black Republican Association—they stirred up some controversy back in 2006 when they first launched this ad campaign. Well they decided to recycle the concept and bought 50 new billboards to “welcome Obama to Denver.” Unfortunately for the conservative group, with the DNC in full swing this just wasn’t going to fly with all those crazy artists in town. A resourceful property hacking artist named CRO decided to change a few letters and induct Martin Luther King into a more appropriate political party.

Pushy Fox Reporter Gets Pushed Around

Protesters using the DNC to get some media coverage for their various causes—most of them misguided—caught the attention of a Fox reporter who attempted to play the role of both journalist and provocateur. Well it worked and he eventually became his own story.

David Choe Manifests ‘Hope’

Here’s a photo of artist David Choe getting started on a canvas he’s creating for the pro-Obama exhibit at the Manifest Hope Gallery in Denver that is coinciding with the DNC this weekend. The exhibit features a wide variety of work from lightboxes to mixed-media creations, so it should be interesting to see what the West Coast based painter come up with. He was just 8 minutes into it when this picture was snapped. “He’s like Gallagher, mops and hands and shit flying everywhere,” writes the tipster. In addition to his contributions to the Manifest Hope Gallery, Choe just released two new prints as part of that 008 Movement x Upper Playground series of Obamartists. The 18″X24″ print is being released in editions of 200 comes signed and numbered by the artist.

One of Many Reasons the DNC Will Be Hipper Than the RNC

In what could be easily be construed as the liberal clusterfuck of the 21st century, MoveOn is partnering with Shepard Fairey and Upper Playground to host a Pro-Obama (naturally) exhibit during the DNC. The “Manifest Hope Art Gallery” will open on Sunday, August 24 and run through Thursday, August 28. The 10,000 square foot venue will display work by both established an emerging artists. Additionally, the proponents of the candidate that can actually raise his arms above his head will hold an art contest and 30 submissions will be featured in an online gallery with the top 5 hung physically at the ‘Hope’ Gallery. We also hear that the show will include on site installations from the likes of Ron English and Sam Flores. The above image is from one of the artists featured in the show, who simply goes by the name Eddie. He’s been pasting up this image around San Francisco of Obama with radiating lights and the word “Forward” in Chinese in part to highlight the often overlooked Asian voting bloc. He’s also created versions in Spanish and plans on rolling out other languages too like Korean, Japanese, Russian, and Vietnamese. The piece itself was created with layers of paper, shellac, and then pasted into a lightbox. Detailed shots and images of the work in progress below.
