Manhattan and Brooklyn’s Hippest Neighborhoods Have the Most Pizza

Using data from the NYC Health Department, it was determined that the East Village has the most pizza places in all of Manhattan while Williamsburg topped the Brooklyn list. Ridgewood took the crown in Queens, Williamsbridge has the Bronx on lock, and who really cares about Staten Island?

Free Wi-fi Ready for Tompkins Square Park Occupiers

Just in time for Occupy Wall Street’s planned demonstrations on Saturday, the city has activated the free wifi at Tompkins Square Park. It’s one of 20 public parks around NYC that will offer high speed wireless service, which is great for area residents and this weekend’s protesters looking to broadcast live from the East Village.

East Village IHOP Braces Itself For the Drunk Masses

Unlike other well documented IHOPs on YouTube, the newly opened East Village location may not become the site of many a drunken brawl. The restaurant is already taking precautions to make sure that no teeth go flying into somebody’s pancakes — they’ve hired a security guard.

Similar to a club bouncer, this off-duty cop will work the hellacious 11PM to 7AM shift. The Post quips “With the arrival of the pancake shop yesterday as an antidote for the after-midnight munchies, some longtime residents fear the trendy neighborhood will turn Rooty Tooty Fresh ’N Fruity.” Whatever that means. Another 7/11 Coming Down to NYC

Having nine 7-Eleven’s in New York City just seems so unnecessary. But, the East Village is about to get magic number 10. The new store is coming to corner of Bowery and East 4th Street. There’s already a Subway across the street.

7-Elevens belong in the suburbs. They’re useless in the city because we already have 24 hour bodegas. Same goes for their awesomely greasy-ass hot dogs, we have hot dog carts and Criff Dogs for that.

What NY really needs is a Wawa — Philadelphia’s superior counterpart to 7-Eleven and the only real reason to go to Philly. Wawa is basically 7-Eleven’s cooler younger brother. Their coffee is made out of Jesus’ blood for sure, it’s too good to be anything else.

Mars Bars Closes, Finally

After what seemed like months of watching something die a very slow and painful death, it has been confirmed, by numerous sources, that longtime East VIllage staple, the Mars Bar is no longer. A visit by the Department of Health was the final nail in the coffin, citing the location for flies and roaches. And people are grieving over the demise of this dive bar why exactly?

Graffiti Artist Quits Cold Turkey

Angel Ortiz, better known by his graffiti name LAII, is done painting illegally, but admits it’s an addiction that won’t be easy to quit. “I’m hanging up the gloves,” said the 44-year-old Downtown art fixture to The Local. “No more spray painting in the streets. I don’t know how I’m going to do it.” LA credits his change of heart with the time he had to serve at Rikers Island recently, after getting arrested three times in a short period of time for tagging up a few spots, mostly in the East Village. Parking Puncher Pleads Not Guilty

The Queens man who allegedly cold-clocked a Bronx woman unconscious over a parking dispute in the East Village has plead not guilty. Oscar Fuller said he was just defending himself from Lana Rosas’ repeated punches. Meanwhile, it’s being reported that she has finally regained consciousness after more than a month in a coma, which is quite possibly the only good news that come of this situation.

Woman Over-Punished In Parking Mishap

A 25-year-old Bronx woman is in a coma after a 35-year-old Queens man cold-clocked her for trying to hold a parking space in the East Village for a friend. He was later arrested, as he should be, but claims she hit him first. Regardless, this unfortunate incident could have been averted if the young lady followed the unspoken golden rule and not tried to save a spot—especially on East 14th Street where finding a place to park is already nightmarish enough.

Hells Angels Protect their Bench

A while back, I walked past the Hells Angels’ NYC headquarters in the East Village and heard “Shiny Happy People” blaring from inside and kind of lost respect for the notorious biker gang.
