This past Friday night, Jay-Z debuted a game-changing street single called “D.O.A.” (Death of Auto-Tune) that sent the Hip Hop community into a tizzy, but not without some controversy. For the uninitiated, Auto-Tune is a popular program most associated with making artists sound like robots and while R&B singer T-Pain is often regarded as the most frequent offender, it has spread like a virus across the industry with lots of rappers using it too. Anyway, while some people were arguing whether or not No I.D. solely produced the track or why Kanye West would be involved in the first place after the liberal amounts of Auto-Tune he put down on his last album, others were thinking what a sad comedy it was for Hot 97 DJs Funk Flex and Mister Cee to treat the track like it was some sort of dub plate made specifically for them.
