‘Urban Scrawl’ Auctioned Off

Tuesday afternoon, Artnet’s “Urban Scrawl: Graffiti and Street Art” week-long online auction ended, having attracted twice the traffic of its predecessors. Among the hot-ticket items and highlights: the staple bunch of Banksys and Harings, FUTURA’s Untitled for $17,250, Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Cabeza for $19,550 and COPE2′s recently “appropriated” subway sign Church Av Station to Flatbush Av only (2010) sold for $2,530.

Os Gêmeos Are Back in NYC

And it’s not to liberate their Deitch wall. The Brazilian twins are collaborating on a brand new mural in Chelsea with legendary artist Futura reports Arrested Motion. Crack photographer Liam Quigley visited P.S. 11 today and snapped shots of Os Gêmeos in action. ‘New Yorkers’ Take Over Danish Gallery

This past Friday, “The New Yorkers,” an exhibition of several dozen five borough based-artists opened at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen. Curated by Todd James, also known as REAS, the show is self-admittedly difficult to categorize: “A common denominator for the city, the artists and the works is defiance against generalizations and predictability.” In this vain, James brings together everything from paintings to installations by artists such as FUTURA, KAWS, Barbara Kruger, Steve Powers, Aurel Schmidt, and Dash Snow.
