A group called Gnosis took credit for hacking the company’s database and lifting all sorts of shit: A widely distributed text file contained internal chats between the site’s editors, 1.3 million commenter passwords, source code, and insults aimed at head honcho Nick Denton.

The hackers also managed to deface the flagship’s front page and hijack at least two Twitter accounts. Attempting to explain the motivation for such an attack, the CEO of a security research firm in Phoenix told the Associated Press that the epic hack was akin to graffiti. “It’s kind of a juvenile thing,” said Rich Mogull. “It’s like spray-painting.” Oh yeah, just like it. Gnosis may have just found its next target. ┌║┐(•_•)┌║┐

While the Internet debated the merits of outing heterosexual ladybug Christine O’Donnell as a Halloween un-night stander, and/or followed the hunt for her anonymous Philadelphian Judas, other controversies involving the Senate candidate unfolded.

Like, her campaign treasurer quit! Also, she snapped her fingers.

The AP reports that Sandra Taylor, the departing campaign treasurer, served less than two months, and was O’Donnell’s fifth in two years. O’Donnell has replaced Taylor with her campaign manager, Matt Moran—the same guy who threatened to “crush” a Delaware radio station if they posted a video of their interview with O’Donnell online.

According to the Delaware radio station WDEL-AM, O’Donnell’s campaign threatened to sue them if they didn’t destroy this video recording of her appearance on “The Rick Jensen Show,” in which you can see O’Donnell snap for her aide’s attention.

Jensen’s a conservative, yet Moran still called the taping a “liberal media” attack. O’Donnell’s campaign has since apologized to the station.

But the real question on everyone’s minds is, “will that guy in Philadelphia apologize to Christine O’Donnell?” Details to come.

Gawker just announced the 2010 Webutante Ball, and yours truly is on the committee. Which basically means that I was asked to be on it, and I said “yes.” Perfect position without any real responsibility, and all I had to do was suck Nick Denton’s dick.

Not only that, but I am nominated for an induction to the Fameball Hall of Fame; which is just as prestigious as it sounds. It will look good on my resume (but maybe not as good as “Hipster of the Decade NOMINEE [see: didn't fucking win]“), and I’m sure it will help me secure a high-paying job eventually. So, vote for me, unless you hate me (what up: gook commenter) then vote for Julia Allison.

Anyway, to get to the point: Bearded Boy just flew out to Afghanistan, which leaves me without a proper date and bang buddy. So, I am holding a contest for the chance to get an all-inclusive VIP pass to the 2010 Webutante Ball, and a chance to be shamed forever–on the internet–by being seen in public with me. The Ball is being held at Marquee in Chelsea, and liquor will be provided. Illegal substance may be abundant, and there’s a chance that you will be able to stick one of your body parts inside of one of my holes.

To win this contest, I’m asking for the best submission (to: batmanthehorse@gmail.com) under these guidelines:
–Must be of drinking age (as much as I’d love to roll in with a 14 year old Justin Bieber look-alike, looks like I’m going to have to hold off)
–Must submit photo of themselves donning the attire that they are planning on wearing to the event (remember, technically it’s prom themed; and if you don’t quite have that perfect outfit, at least describe it in full detail)
–Must submit photo of themselves doing something, or surrounded by, things they feel most accurately represent me
–Must submit stats with photo (height, weight, dick size, dick weight, cup size, job status, scale of narcissism from 1-Tila Tequila)
–Must have beard (even you ladies, if there are any)

I don’t have a lawyer (for this kind of thing, at least), so this is all on your own accord, and I can not be held responsible for the SWAT team busting down your door, because you took a photo of you standing in front of your cash crop, and posted it on the internet.

Last year’s Ball was a complete success, though I couldn’t attend due to, uhhh, other obligations; and I don’t expect anything less from this year. So, if you’d like a chance to be part of history for a good cause; submit!

Deadline: May 24th, 2010

In promotion of their book on the city’s disappearing storefronts, photographers Jim & Karla Murray are opening MOM & POPism, a mixed media installation featuring over a dozen streets artists embellishing a selection of realistic-looking retail panels. Curated by sticker-happy street artist Billi Kid and set on the rooftop of Gawker headquarters—of all places—the gossipy multimillion dollar media empire is hosting the special event, an offshoot of their ongoing remant ad space for artists program. An invite-only reception is being held tonight, but it won’t officially open to the public until Saturday, August 15.

“It’s continually astounding how deep and wide the cultural divide can seem at a distance. It is equally affirming to recognize that the chasm may be breached by a few well placed words of wisdom.”

Now we understand why Tyler has been offered an artist in residence fellowship at a prominent university in the UK.

Thousands of words on Gawker reveals one useful tidbit.

Although it was a cover story and contained thousands of words, Vanessa Grigoriadis didn’t really say much in her hit piece on Gawker in New York magazine last week. Without delving into the jaded writer’s numerous shortcomings in her assessment of the “rage of the creative class,” besides <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/10/16/wow-everybody-really-doe_n_68588.html"style="color:maroon;">this gal does a much better job, we will congratulate the author for at least outing Kelly Rippa and Harvey Weinstein’s Soho address. She <a href="http://nymag.com/news/features/39319/index4.html"style="color:maroon;">writes:

Denton’s place is one of the great Manhattan apartments for a party, a cavernous loft that seems to be decorated only in titanium and suede in a Soho building whose other tenants include Kelly Ripa and Harvey Weinstein.

One quick search for <a href="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Nick+Denton+%2B+Spring+Street&btnG=Search"style="color:maroon;">Nick Denton + Spring Street pretty much yields all the stalking information you’ll ever need, but don’t thank us.
