“One name. One obsession. A black and white loop. Hypnotic. Overwhelming,” quoth the description for this commericial for Montana spray paint, directed by Big Addict and enacted by TILT. Hypnotic it is. It starts off steady and then speeds up until TILT is a frantic, cathartic blur of a man. At the end, we have two infinitely packed layers, two stacked planes, two cloaked frequencies, buzzing. How’s that for a time-lapse?

“The street is my gallery,” says French graffiti artist KIDULT in a newly released video. He explains how “classy brands” are co-opting “street culture” and so he’s just paying them back. “Keep using something you know something about, and it will be a pleasure for me retaliate.” Which he does, quite well, with spray paint and his trusty fire extinguisher.

After some transatlantic liaisons between cops, it was determined that his real name was Maxime Bezat and that he writes “RASK.” Port Authority police made the bust and he was then extradited to Boston to face charges for painting a MBTA train. The 25-year-old paid a $2500 fine to forego a trial.

But his legal troubles aren’t over. He apparently had warrants in New York as well for painting subway cars in Brooklyn and Queens on two different occasions says a source. So, Bezat was transferred to Rikers Island on Tuesday and was being held on a $3,500 bail, which according to the Department of Correction website, has been paid as of today! Here’s an episode of the The Equalizer, an 80s TV series shot on the then gritty streets of New York City. As you can imagine, there was a lot of authentic graffiti in the scenes, which the person who uploaded this YouTube video artfully points out.

Since the ’90s, people have been kissing the tomb of Oscar Wilde and scrawling him love letters in red. It’s been a “cult pastime” at the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris. Today, the restored monument was unveiled, its “graffiti” and lipsticked peck trails freshly scrubbed. A glass barrier “will surround it to prevent the kissers from causing further damage.” Aw?

Those of us yet to passionately slobber with the brilliant writer’s tomb are thereby denied! By glass!!! Apparently, adoring Wilde lovers are already smooching nearby trees in thwarted tribute.

Dr John Schofield, of the Department of Archaeology at the University of York thinks these “artifacts” deserve to be heralded as “a direct and powerful representation of a radical and dramatic movement of rebellion” and on par in significance with Paleolithic cave art. Ha! That is not to say that even amateurish vandalism by music history relevant figures isn’t worthy of preservation, to a reasonable degree, even though the academic behind this particular campaign is trying so hard to make archeology hip again in associating it with words like punk and graffiti, but… They still look like a bunch of drunk asshole’s lazy doodles. A talking bullocks-’n'-taint, anyone?
