Prosecutors won’t be throwing the book at the acrobatic duo who climbed up the Williamsburg Bridge and put on a thrilling impromptu performance this past July as a crowd watched on from below. After initially facing two felony counts, their attorney was able to get the charges against Seanna Sharpe and Thomas Skinner reduced to misdemeanors and they will likely avoid jail time altogether. NYPD Backpedals On Cyclist Ticketing Blitz

Traditionally, when the NYPD does something wrong involving bikes, they either ratchet things up even further and make the situation way worse or they dig-in, but rarely do they say sorry. Surprise, surprise. Gothamist reports that the officers who WRONGLY ticketed cyclists in Central Park for allegedly speeding after clocking them going a little over 15 mph, personally apologized to 9 out of the 10 riders.

Is it possible that even the cops are embarrassed by this egregious type of anti-bike enforcement? It’s possible, although it’s more likely that the speed limit actually being 25 mph was the more compelling reason. All the tickets will reportedly be dismissed.

In related news a NYC councilmember wants to do what Transportation Alternatives has been trying to do for years: Get cars the hell out of the park and restrict them to the the east-west traverses where they belong and how Frederick Law Olmsted originally planned.

Buju Permitted to Return to Work

A federal judge ruled that Buju Banton can perform at a Miami concert in January. The 24-hour security detail he was forced to hire as part of the conditions of his oppressive parole, will have to attend the show, just in case the dancehall legend tries to make a grand escape while singing in front of thousands of adoring fans. Banton was released in November after being incarcerated for 11 months. His retrial is scheduled to begin in February.

NYPD Forced To Differentiate Between Innocent, Guilty People

Despite objections from Mayor Bloomberg, the state Senate okayed a measure that would prevent the NYPD from keeping tabs on everyone they stop and frisk. According to the NYCLU, who filed a lawsuit against the police department in May, there’s currently over 100,000 innocent people on that list. |NYDN|

Here’s a great firsthand account (and photo) of the neo-Nazis who picked the wrong hardcore show to play dress up at and the resulting beatdown Murphy’s Law fans righteously delivered to them. The author also eloquently explains one of the major differences between the hardcore scenes in Philadelphia and New York City:

Sure, in recent years there has been this running thing in the Philly hardcore scene that neo-Nazis are tolerated at the shows…but Murphy’s Law is not from Philly. They are from NYC. And their crowd is all about what they are about. Which means they are going to have a problem with swastikas and Nazi gear.

Nudity Isn’t Lewd When Done In the Name of Art!

“I want the city to drop the charges,” said nude model activist Kathleen Neil back in late August, after she was arrested at the Met for stripping off her clothes during a guerrilla photo shoot for lensman Zach Hyman. Well, she got her wish.

Prosecutors dropped their case against the young woman, who has a history of getting naked, claiming they couldn’t prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. Or in layman’s terms, public nudity is full protected under the law—especially if it’s artsy. |NYP|

Oreo To Be Immortalized Through Legislation

So there might be some justice after all for Oreo, the now dead pit bull that had a bit of an attitude and was subsequently murdered by the ASPCA, despite an animal rescue group’s frantic pleas to take the bitch in. All of which, we know learn, went completely unanswered: emails, phone calls, physical visits to the facility.

Evidently, survival is not an option for abused dogs at the ASPCA, but that could all change if Oreo’s Law passes. The City Room reports:

Under a new bill being proposed in the Legislature called Oreo’s Law, animal rescue organizations like Pets Alive would be allowed to take custody on request of an animal scheduled to be euthanized by an animal shelter.

If passed, this law could mark a huge victory for animal rescue groups and common sense alike. |City Room|

Graffiti Vandal Blasts America’s A$$hole Sheriff

The nation’s most famous Constitution-hating, immigrant-discriminating sheriff, Joe Arpaio, was shouted out by what was to be one of the bravest vandals in all of Arizona. Armed with what looks like a spray paint filled fire extinguisher, the eloquently brief missive was sprayed on the “Sheriff’s Office property building” after a press conference according to the notorious rights violator.

Although Arpaio is dismissing the vandalism as the work of protesters, America’s most despicable lawman should remember that this isn’t the first time he’s been targeted, by any means. Plus, he is known to lie, even when it comes to vice presidential matters, so it’s kind of hard to believe anything he says anymore.
