The Art in the Streets exhibit now comes with graffiti fashions. Ten MOCA x Levi’s jean jackets feature MOCA-exhibited Andre, Chaz Bojorquez, CRASH, KR, Neckface, Lady Pink, REVOK, Shepard Fairey, Kenny Scharf (yes, it’s the mural) and Keith Haring (sans consent, obviously).

Phillips de Pury’s upcoming Dec. 17 auction highlights are chock-full of ’80s goodness: big boomboxes, art boobs, Basquiat, T-KID, Ghost, and Cope2 tags on NYC subway maps, Keith Haring matryoshkas, Natasha Kinksi in her prime, a cool kid (note: not a yuppie) from Robert Longo, Kenny Scharf’s sardined color blobs (like the mural) and a crazy olde phone. Also, lots of pretentious furniture from before I was born.

Little Kids Are Going to Graffiti Summer Camps Now

There’s a Graffiti and Street Art Camp in Miami this summer. Pay $300 and your five-to-nine-year-olds will spend a week going on mural-sighting field trips and learning about Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, color theory, composition and running really fast when you get caught doing said graffiti. Just kidding. But only about that last part. [Insert very clever pun on the word "toy" here.]

“It’s the only permanent thing that I did while I was in Australia,” said Keith Haring in 1984 after painting a mural in a Melbourne suburb and art peeps are trying to keep it that way. Sounds noble, as long as they don’t dare repaint it, an option which has been debated.

The paint is cracking badly and the last time it was restored was in 1996, when it cost less than $200 a year to maintain. But now, 14 years later, it could cost as much as $22,000 to fix and almost $1000 a year to keep up. |The Art Newspaper|

Mike Leavitt’s Art Army Action Figures

Mike Leavitt has scaled down some familiar artists. Behold, the Art Army: a bizarre Mark Ryden, a dissected Damien Hist, a masked Banksy, a be-bucketed Shepard Fairey and more.

The pieces are hot items. Leavitt sold more than 200 out of his 240 art-action figures. Ron English’s wife bought Leavitt’s Ron English. KAWS not only bought up his own but made Leavitt agree never to make another one in his polymorphic likeness.

Leavitt – a proud Pratt drop out – crafts these by hand, choosing “the right people in our history.” His Art Army is a varied legion: R. Crumb, David Lynch, Basquiat, Big Daddy Roth, Futura 2000, Jeremy Fish, Sam Flores, Ghostface Killah, Van Gogh and more. His current show in London is a collaboration with Charles Krafft and includes their Charlie Manson and Amy Winehouse teapots. Niftyness galore. |Jailbreak|

Twenty years since Keith Haring’s memorial service in NYC, Culver City’s Carmichael Gallery celebrates the legendary Pop Art graffiti artist with the exhibit “Keith Haring – Urban Legend.” On display: 20 original works on canvas and paper, as well as vintage street signs and a vinyl blow up “Radian Baby Doll” from Haring’s 27th birthday party. Dirty Jeff Koons, Dead Animals and Nazis Are 18+ in Canada

Unless you have a strong tolerance for gross/corny, looking at a plastic Jeff Koons getting nasty isn’t recommended for any age group. To see it at Canada’s National Gallery, you’ll need ID proving you’re 18 or older.

Tate Modern’s mass show “Pop Life: Art in a Material World” arrives to Ontario in June and for the first time, the museum is blocking off entire rooms deemed unsuitable for young’uns. The traveling Pop show features works by Warhol, Haring, Hirst and a few too hardcore for Canada, including Polish artist Piotr Uklanski’s Nazi uniform fetish, Andrea Fraser’s glorified sex tape and Maurizio Cattelan’s dead horse with a sign stuck in it (it’s about Jesus!). Presumably, Takashi Murakami’s anime gal with titular elephantis is also 18+.

The Minister of Canadian heritage has “no interest in seeing this exhibition” and isn’t sure that milk-spouting mammaries are family fun as “mandated.” The exhibition will cost $1.6 million to set up, which is apparently a low end budget.

The Canadian kitsch-fest will be missing a creepy photograph of a naked 10-year-old Brooke Shields vamped up in a bathtub, as it was taken down by the Gallery due to child pornography complaints.

Jeff Koons’ sex face and asshole close-ups remain. Sorry, Canada.
