Like California, voters in Maine may soon get the opportunity to vote for the full legalization of weed for anyone over 19 years of age, no prescription necessary. Proponents are circulating a petition and with enough signatures they can get the measure on the ballot. The law would also clear people’s records of weed-related offenses and expand the existing medical weed legislation. Godspeed! |Bangor Daily News|
Not all was lost last night. While it’s true that Mainers rejected a referendum for gay marriage, they did manage to support a medical weed initiative that makes it a lot easier for patients to get their doctor-prescribed medicine and for the state to tax those purchases. The new measure “allows for a statewide system of storefront distribution centers,” reports the Bangor Daily News. Of all the votes cast, 293,694 were in favor and 207,419 opposed making Maine the 4th state to adopt a progressive cannabis program along with California, New Mexico, and Rhode Island. |Bangor Daily News|
