Despite a conspicuous absence from voter guides, Monty Burns hasn’t given up his mayoral aspirations. The campaign is still hitting the streets, plastering their propaganda over illegal NPA ads in their quest to defeat Mayor Bloomberg’s third-term bid. Being a fabulously wealthy power plant owner, Burns doesn’t have to worry about the $500k illegal poster fines that beleaguer other politicians.

Bloomberg Spends Millions Annoying New Yorkers

Mayor Bloomberg Can’t Say ‘No’ to Fourth Term

Mayor Bloomberg hasn’t even won his third term but he’s still leaving the door open for more. Asked whether he would rule out a fourth run, Bloomberg said the law doesn’t allow it. A reporter pointed out that the law didn’t always allow three terms, to which he responded: “But it does now. It permits only three terms, so I don’t know. Talk to your City Council. Let me point out that I had no intention of running for a (third) term up until near the end, as you know. The City Council changed the law. It’s up to the voters whether they want four more years.” |NYDN|

Joan Baez Plays Highline Ballroom Tonight for $15

Tonight, folk legend and lifelong civil rights activist Joan Baez lends her voice in support of Green Party candidate Reverend Billy Talen’s mayoral bid. Also featuring the Rev’s Life After Shopping Gospel Choir among others, the Elect-a-lujah benefit concert costs just $15 and starts at 7 PM in the Highline Ballroom. Of course, if you prefer your mayoral candidate’s music off-key, head to Times Square to check out the Naked Cowboy, who doesn’t even live in New York City.

Naked Cowboy to Run for Mayor

Reverend Billy Talen won’t be the only musical in the mayoral race this year. Tomorrow in Times Square, underwear clad crooner the Naked Cowboy will announce his candidacy, running on a platform of “bringing transparency to a whole new level.” Of course he does have to gather 7,500 signatures before he can get on the ballot, and his tourist fans don’t count. |NYP|

Reverend Billy Gets Green Light to Run for Mayor

Standing on the steps of Union Square on Sunday, Reverend Billy Talen officially declared his run as Green Party candidate for New York City Mayor. The long-time activist preacher, well known from his work with the Church of Life After Shopping and Morgan Spurlock’s documentary, What Would Jesus Buy?, declared to a crowd supporters and press, “This campaign will be the revolt of the fabulous 500 neighborhoods, amen!” At the core of the Reverend’s campaign is the idea that “the greatness of New York comes from its neighborhoods,” which he’s focused on protecting and strengthening.

With his electric blue suit, shock of blonde hair, not to mention his own gospel choir kicking off the campaign, it’s clear Reverend Billy is not your average candidate, but Mayor Bloomber would be wise not to underestimate the power of the preacher.
