As if being confined to an artificial habitat at the Central Park Zoo for the amusement of human voyeurs wasn’t depressing enough, Gus the polar now has to go through his daily routine without the company of his soulmate, Ida. She was suffering from liver disease and zoo workers euthanized her last week, leaving Gus alone and possibly depressed. They’re keeping a close watch and hope he doesn’t have another mental breakdown like he did in 1994.
The BBC shot a documentary on polar bears in the Arctic regions of Norway using cleverly camouflaged surveillance cameras, allowing for some truly up close and remarkable footage, while they lasted. The curious creatures ended up destroying the devices on several occasions, a trait that reportedly helps keep them alive.
No one can summarize how eco-fucking retarded this Nissan commercial is as eloquently as Copyranter so we’ll just quote him directly: “What an absolutely outrageously manipulative insensitive hubristic piece of Green advertising bullshit.”
Awww, a little polar bear cub hitching a ride on its mother’s back, how cute! This photograph taken by a tourist on an Arctic voyage, not only proves there’s goodness in the world, but has also generated interest among wildlife researchers. They claim the piggybacking behavior is rarely observed and could prove that cubs are much lazier than previously thought. |BBC|

Polar Bear Shot Out of Its Element
I’m still not sure if these photos of a polar bear wandering around a construction site and eating garbage are fascinating or depressing, but either way, here they are. Although short on details, I assume this is Siberia or something, but definitely not Japan, their bears attack. |EnglishRussia|
