This Image Sums Up the Debt Crisis Nicely

In case you were wondering what the current status of the debt crisis negotiations looks like, it’s the same as it was a few days ago when designer David Colarusso first created this illustration. (Image: @colarusso)

A Message the DNC Isn’t Exploiting Properly

It’s unfathomable how Democrats haven’t pounced on Republicans for the union busting going on in Wisconsin. Instead they’ve gone missing. How is this the right message to send? The DNC should be staging daily photo ops, press conferences, and cementing themselves as the real ally of the working class. It should also be running ads like this.

Spitzer Kinda Endorses Cuomo

New York’s ex-governor Eliot Spitzer says he will vote for Andrew Cuomo, but decided to offer some criticisms of him first, telling CNN: “Behind the scenes he is the dirtiest, nastiest political player out there, and that is his reputation from years in Washington.” And he should know. Spitzer was the dirtiest, nastiest political player out there. There’s even a movie about it (Latest Client 9 trailer below). Read more »

Just A Few of the Many Reasons Why You Won’t Be Voting Today

A) It’s primary elections: Real voters come out for the main event. B) The choices for the major slots are slim pickings: Republicans get to choose the lesser of two crazy-ass evils for governor, Lazio or Paladino. For Democrats, with their gubernatorial candidate locked down, the next biggest race is either a Tea Party person or Chuck Schumer. And sadly, despite his many ethical violations, Charlie Rangel is a shoe-in. As for attorney general, no one cares. C) Who’s’ got time to be fucking around with broken new machines?

So, those free Yankees tickets Governor Paterson accepted? They could end up costing him about $93,000.

Mayor Bloomberg Blasts Democrats for 9/11 Bill Republicans Didn’t Pass

NYC’s billionaire mayor was really unhappy about Congress not passing the 9/11 health care bill, so what did he do? He blamed the Democrats and called them unpatriotic for the method in which they conducted the vote as opposed to criticizing the Republicans who, ya know, voted against it. |Observer|

Governor Paterson’s Days Are Numbered

Enjoy the SNL skits while you can, because David Paterson isn’t going to be the governor of New York much longer. The domestic abuse scandal swirling around his top aide David Johnson and then girlfriend Sherr-una Booker continues to grow. It appears that the governor attempted to intervene on Johnson’s behalf and had at least two state workers contact the woman to try and get her to back off. Deputy Secretary for Public Safety Denise O’Donnell quit last week and the latest head to roll was State Police Superintendent Harry Corbitt who resigned on Tuesday. The Daily News noted that criminal charges are unlikely, but that doesn’t give Paterson any breathing room and the resignation murmurs in Albany just got a little louder. |NYDN|
