City Hall hottie Rachel Sterne continues to earn her keep as chief digital officer and today announced—via Twitter—the latest way for New Yorkers to reach 311: by text! Send your query to 311-692. I did, asking: “When will Mayor Bloomberg finally be gone?” Within minutes, I received the following response with a link to his bio page: “Mayor Bloomberg was elected in 2009. Mayors have a 4 year term, so his term will be over in 2013.” Actually, he was reelected in ’09 after overturning term limits, but hey, at least they know when he’s leaving.
City Hall’s hottest employee, Rachel Sterne, is looking for an intern. The Chief Digital Officer posted a notice for the position on her Tumblr. Basically, you need to have the same qualifications she has, but be willing to work for free.
A Facebook page. The mayor thinks it’s a very important step towards the city’s digital future. He even stopped by the social networking website’s California headquarters to meet Mark Zuckerberg back in October to discuss setting up a NYC page, like other cities have. Of course this all took place before the hiring of Rachel Sterne. Perhaps she can explain how easy it is to create a fan page and in fact, according to amNY, that’s one of her assignments.

City Hall’s hottest new employee, Rachel Sterne, was hired as NYC’s chief digital officer. The Wall Street Journal reports that shortly after the announcement, Sterne changed the privacy settings on her Facebook page so non-friends can’t leave comments or see her wall, although they can still view her photos, just not this one of her kissing a guy named Max, which she promptly deleted from her Flickr. As far as her qualifications go, she’s hot 27, the CEO of crowdsourcing news site GroundReport and teaches social media at Columbia Business School, but more importantly, has a Flickr, a Facebook and a Twitter.
