With the MTA crew’s massive LA River roller wiped out by a federally funded ditch cleaning effort, what’s the next biggest piece of graffiti? Norwegian graffiti enthusiasts are vying for the title, touting a roller painted in an airfield southwest of Oslo. Asking “can you see us from outer space?,” the 60 foot high FOS Crew painting measures roughly 820 feet at its longest, just over half the size of MTA’s third of a mile monstrosity. Norwegian rappers Gatas Parlament have declared it the “world’s second largest piece of all time,” a compelling enough claim that the local newspaper chartered a flight for an aerial shot of this second place painting.

After last week’s announcement that the MTA’s massive LA River roller was being buffed by the military, came an awards ceremony celebrating the waterway’s cover up as well as the arrest of its alleged vandals. Local politicians were also on hand to wax poetic and attempt to link the expensive clean up with the creation of thousands of new jobs, the fight against climate change and other important issues that nearly a million dollars should be spent on before whitewashing a glorified drainage ditch. After whitewashing SABER’s massive LA River piece, contractors for the US Army Corps of Enginers have begun painting over a giant MTA roller nearby. Measuring “57 feet high and one-third of a mile long,” the Metro Transit Assassins piece is being eradicated with nearly a million dollars of economic stimulus funding oddly allocated for sprucing up the glorified drainage ditch. LA authorities claim it took “up to 40 taggers,” to paint the three letters, most of whom weren’t arrested in the LAPD roundup of alleged MTA members earlier this year. |CBS 13|

After last week’s photo of an abbreviated roller off the Williamsburg Bridge comes this colossal piece in Atlanta, where NEKST, HENSE and SEVER covered the long side of a warehouse with enormous varsity letters. |12oz|

The folks in Mad Society Kings clearly know a thing or two or three about big difficult spots, so painting this black and chrome roller across the side of a Brooklyn building off the Williamsburg Bridge was a piece of cake in comparison. Click the images above for the before and after pictures.
