Swiss Graffiti Writer Gets More Jail Time from Singapore Court

Courts in Singapore aren’t so receptive to appeals and when Oliver Fricker asked a judge to reduce his sentence for spray painting a train, was given two additional months instead. He’ll now have to serve out a total of seven months and three strokes of a heavy, wet, oppressive cane. |AP|

Both sides are appealing the sentence handed down by a court in Singapore against a Swiss graffiti writer who painted a train car: The prosecution says it’s not harsh enough, the defense, of course is arguing the opposite.

Swiss national Oliver Fricker, 32, is facing fines, incarceration, and caning for sneaking into a train depot and painting a subway car with a British friend who was smart enough to leave the country before the police report was filed. Fricker has been released on $100k bail, but the judge kept his passport and he’ll face a litany of charges which aren’t too easy to beat in a country that is actually facing a major lawyer shortage.
