This Saturday at the Brooklynite Gallery: Brooklyn’s Specter and German duo Various & Gould will “Make It Fit” with a labor-centric treatise of silkscreens, portraits and discarded materials. Specter’s cart-pushers and delivery boys take the spotlight in “hand-crafted” and “retro-fitted” medley of found objects arranged. Various & Gould’s vibrant work presents a distopia of body-part trading, “waltzing” workers. Opening reception is March 20, 7-10pm with musical guests Dj Cerock and Rifle Recoil. Read more »

Specter’s ‘Gentrification’ Billboards

To promote the upcoming ‘Gentrification of Brooklyn’ exhibit at MoCADA, street working artist Specter created a series of hand-painted billboards offering a satirical take on development in NYC’s most populous borough. According to Wooster Collective, it took him two months to create the ads that were installed in Brooklyn.

Brooklynite Gallery Gets Into the City For Summer

Brooklynite Gallery is venturing into Manhattan this summer, opening a pop-up shop in the East Village. The new shop, Brooklynite NYC, will be showing and selling a bunch of prints and pieces of art from the Bed Stuy-based gallery’s coterie of artists and image makers. The grand opening, featuring the release of this Specter print, is tonight from 7 to 9 PM at 632 East 11th Street.
