It all started when a pack of over 50 teenagers congregated in front of a teenage girl’s home and demanded she come out and fight.

She smartly remained inside and the police were called, but when two officers responded and tried to make an arrest, they were overpowered and knocked to the ground. One of the cops put a call out on the radio and firefighters from a stationhouse only a few doors down responded in the best way they could: a water cannon. More police and a helicopter eventually arrived, leading to several well deserved busts. They predominantly vote Republican, drive cars, and yes, a lot of them are frightened to death of turkeys.

Every year within earshot of Thanksgiving, there’s a report about the birds roaming the streets and while other New Yorkers appreciate an occasional wildlife appearance, SI locals are not nearly as supportive.

For many of them, the fowl are like a medieval horde or at the very least, hoodlums. Below is a collection of some of their most fearful quotes a Daily News reporter was able to compile:

“The turkeys are bigger than my children, and they aren’t afraid of people or even cars.”

“They are like the neighborhood gang.”

“The turkeys have multiplied since last year. They are street wise. They are city turkeys. They know how to survive.”

“The filthy animals are like a gang. They take over the street and yards and poop everywhere. It’s disgusting.”

We don’t think they were counted, but the number of Orthodox Jewish children sharing rooms could’ve put that neighborhood at number one very easily. The census also shows that central Staten Island, specifically those in 10314, has the highest percentage of white and married homeowners, making it the most boring zip code in all of America. Didn’t need a headcount to tell us that.

Some locals lost power and experienced flood damage, but residents in the ritzy Todt Hill section of Staten Island, self-titled “Zone Z,” loved what the storm did for their property.

“While some parts of Todt Hill (pronounced “tote”) did lose electricity when falling trees knocked down power lines, many inhabitants said they welcomed some of the damage: It left them with better views of the ocean.”

If you’re unfamiliar with Todt Hill, Todt means “dead” in Dutch, it’s the highest elevated area in the five boroughs. Verdure surrounds the upscale residences on the eastern portion of the ridge near the town of New Dorp, and the community has their own private country club and school. One home-owner of a 20,000 square-foot monstrosity on Benedict Road summed up the pastoral beauty of the area:

“It’s just so beautiful here…It’s like New Jersey.”

S.I.’s very own Midland Beach was named the best beach in New York by an organization called New Yorkers For Parks in their annual report.

But in typical ultra-tragic Staten Island fashion, another Staten Island beach — Wolfe’s Pond Beach, was voted to be the worst beach in New York.

Everyone’s fan favorite, Coney Island landed in the middle of the pack because of a “lack of adequate supplies” in the beach’s bathrooms. All of the beaches had problems with their bathrooms and also had trash on their shorelines. Funny how the cigarette ban was supposed to protect the health of children, but little tykes can still step on glass bottles in the sand and not have any soap to wash their hands with. They seized 450 pot plants from the converted auto garage and according to a senior agent, there’s been a steady increase in the number of indoor farms in New York catering to country’s top cash crop.

Reports SILive:

DEA Special Agent in Charge John Gilbride said his agency has been finding “more and more” indoor labs in the New York area over the past few years. Using hydroponically-grown pot can mean higher profits for local dealers, who don’t have to pay for drugs that are smuggled in from Mexico or Jamaica, he said.

Isn’t that something we should be encouraging? At least it’s made in the USA!
