Cardboard Gotham? Check. Terrible acting? Check. Inconsistency in general prop jankyness (pretend Bane’s legit-looking prop mask is replaced a squiggly-covered paper thing)? Uh, check.

Nice try, guys, but really, this “sweded,” shot by shot (sort of) version of The Dark Knight Rises trailer could have been a lot crappier. A good effort nonetheless.

Is “The Dark Knight Cast” Doomed?

Before the Dark Knight movie was even released it claimed it’s first victim, Heath Ledger, who played the maniacal Joker. He died of a drug overdose that Mary-Kate Olsen doesn’t want to discuss with the Feds. Then, a week after the blockbuster movie hit the screen, the other star of the movie playing Batman, Christian Bale, was arrested on claims that he beat his sister and mother. Now today, there’s news that Morgan Freeman, cast as Lucius Fox (think the Batman version of James Bond’s Q) in the same movie, was seriously injured in a car crash with rescue crews breaking out the jaws of life to pry him and a female passenger out of the car. Despite being battered and bruised, the actor told a citizen paparazzi “no freebies, no freebies” when that person tried to snap a photo with a cell phone cam. Aaron Eckhart better watch his ass (we’re not worried about Maggie Gyllenhaal, only meaningful actors have been marred thus far).

Designer ‘Dark Knight’ Toys

While the masses might have snatched up all those cheapy Mattel versions of Heath Ledger’s Joker toy from the new ‘Dark Knight’ movie, here’s the hipper designer toy style that will delight the fast crowd. Japanese vinyl makers Medicom released a “Twin Pack” featuring a Kubrick modeled Batman and the Joker plus a coordinating Bearbrick accomplice. PETA Regrets Putting Batman On Top 10 Animal-Friendly Superhero List

Although PETA could probably care less if Christian Bale—who plays Batman—beats humans in real life, they’re are concerned with his make-believe canine cruelty in the new Dark Knight movie. Apparently in one of the scenes he knocks out a few dogs—in self defense—but according to this PETAvist, the Caped Crusader should have alternative methods for dealing with dogs: “[D]oesn’t the man with the James Bond gadgets know anything about peanut butter treats and deflecting devices?” Due to this fictional transgression—despite one of those mandated declarations that no animals were harmed in the making of this movie—Batman was knocked off the list to make way for kitten-loving Hellboy. Batman Fan Offers Up Outdated Gadget for IMAX Tickets

Joker Ad for The Dark Knight: Far East Style

We’re assuming this Joker-themed ad forThe Dark Knight was exclusive to the Asian market, they almost always get the cooler and darker executions—no matter the movie or brand. And although this ain’t fan art derived like this bad ass poster, if these were put up around NYC, guaranteed they’d be stolen in an instant and put on Craiglist. This guy’s not even selling the cool ones and he’s charging $50 each.

IMAX’ing Out ‘The Dark Knight’

Have you seen The Dark Knight yet? I haven’t. After reading and watching about all the trouble these guys went through to shoot this movie with the higher resolution IMAX format, I couldn’t bring myself to see it in anything but an IMAX equipped theater—only problem is that it’s still sold out. And understandably so, with this being the first time a major feature film used the extra heavy, not as wieldy cameras shooting six sequences or about 30 minutes on the 70mm film (most films shoot with 35mm). Unfortunately, if you live in the NYC area, you really only have one option to view this film with the stunning visual details: the Sony IMAX 3-D Theater at 1998 Broadway (68th street). But getting a ticket isn’t so easy. Sure, you could go to the 2AM show on Thursday night (technically Friday morning) and order ten tickets right now via Fandango, but basically every other time is sold out through then. Of course, there’s the Craigslist option, but tickets are still way inflated, selling for between about $75-100 a pop in most cases for the prime time showings, and slightly cheaper ones, around $40-50, for the late late show. You’re probably asking, “what’s really the big difference between the two formats?” See for yourself after the jump.

More Jokerizing for ‘The Dark Knight

Even with The Dark Knight officially out in theatres, the movie promo remixing artist is still hard at work, pumping out a few more of her Jokerized posters since Warner Bros. is too cheap to send Batman ones. With the smeared smiling red lips quickly seeping right into the pop cultural collective conscious, almost any film will do at this point, including these: “Fred Claus,” “P.S. I Love You,” and “Mad Money.” So did all of this hype work? Maybe. It could knock super-corny Spider-Man 3 right off it’s top grossing spot.

The Many Faces of the Batman

So last night The Dark Knight opened. It’s the sequel to Batman Begins the DC Comics franchise-saving set of movies starring Christian Bale that set the superhero back on track after some disastrous performances by George Clooney and especially Val Kilmer. As the above video shows, the Batman has come a long way since first being played by Lewis Wilson in 1943. Press play to see the various incarnations of the Dark Knight, but do remember it was the birth of the graphic novel that gave the Caped Crusader his edge back. The Joker’s too, otherwise he was just a bumbling benign cackle of face paint.

Black Market Tickets for The Dark Knight

Tonight, at midnight, one of the most importantly hyped movies of all times, The Dark Knight opens, but good luck finding a theater with available seats, especially if you plan on taking in the full experience and seeing it in IMAX—after watching a behind the scenes of what a pain in the ass it was to shoot the movie with the super high resolution camera you’d be wasting time seeing it in on anything else. So expectedly, tickets are reportedly sold out for the next two weeks. However, all hope is not lost yet, Craigslist to the rescue! There’s a bunch of tickets being scalped, and if you’re actually mental enough to dole out money for the inflated prices, might as well try to rationalize it with an IMAX screening.
