Artist Christopher Cox, of ChangetheThought fame, isn’t happy about graphic designer Victor Juhasz taking one of his free downloadable Obama posters and incorporating it into an image that made its way to an editorial in the October 20th issue of Newsweek. Cox is crying copyright infringement, faulting both the artist and the publication. But is it? Sure, Juhasz basically doodled on the Obama design, but he also added his own signature illustrations and other elements like the evil, paint-wielding caricatures, transforming the work into a whole new piece of art. Putting aside the fact that this design was put out in the public domain, Victor Juhasz could argue that his right to parody the work supersedes the copyrights of the artist. From the sound of things, Cox might have been a lot more supportive if some level of attribution was provided, writing:
