Poor Tim Burton. Even the Goths are giving up on him. The director, recently buffooned a la College Humor parody, is taking hits from all over. In the crotch. Read more »
Here’s a little peep at the upcoming issue of erotic art glossy Jacques that leaked earlier this week. Moving on from Russ Meyer-esque smoking redheads, strippers and courtesans (all NSFW, duh) in the last issue (we liked it), Jacques brings you: sports! So far there’s only a bit of a teeny thrill for tennis racquetball squash ball-and-racket sport fetishists, but we’ll see how they manage to turn a sporty porn genre into classy eye candy this time.
Kite surfers in Southeast England took advantage of some windy weather to jump a pier, soaring 100 feet on gusts reaching 40 mph. Apparently, Jake Scrace and Lewis Crathern had been waiting three years to pull off the stunt. And unlike those BMX riders bombing a Rotterdam building, this appears to be legit. Go watch humans fly. |Daily Mail|
A recent timelapse video captures how the Manhattan Bridge sways up and down with each passing subway train. Thankfully though, the motion of the East River crossing isn’t nearly as drastic as the original Tacoma Narrows Bridge, which spectacularly collapsed months after its 1940 opening over the Puget Sound. See the Manhattan Bridge move, after the jump. Read more »
Rapper Painfully Strings Together Some Words, Makes Them Rhyme
Nowadays, even on Hip Hop blogs, a “freestyle” is often defined as someone rapping their lyrics live as opposed to making stuff up on the fly. But not Kanye West, he keeps it real and even manages to rhyme a few words with each other in the process. |Nah Right|
New Space Invader Documentary
There’s a lot of artists out there enhancing public spaces with their creative acts of vandalism, but (Space) Invader is in a class all his own. Known for installing colored tiles that form mosaics of characters from arcade classics, here’s a clip from a new documentary that offers a glimpse into the techniques he uses to achieve global domination.
Video Vindication for Police Brutality Victim
The poor NYPD, they just can’t catch a break lately and keep getting caught on video unlawfully beating the city’s residents. Shockingly they’re even getting punished for it. It was only last week that bike-pushing bully Patrick Pogan was kicked off the force, and today the Post reports that all charges will be dropped against Michael Cephus, “a disabled truck driver” who was beat with a metal baton by Officer Maurice Harrington and then charged with assaulting a cop. The victim was facing 15 years in prison, but thankfully, two bystanders recorded the attack and then smartly “slipped the film to his friend” since they were also arrested. |NYP|
Credit Crisis for Dummies, the Visual Version
When it comes down to it, not even the country’s top legislators—ya know the real chimps who authored the stimulus bill, can properly explain the credit crisis to their constitutients. But this nifty video by Jonathan Jarvis should help clarify with the use of visuals! |Visual Culture|
‘Inglourious Basterds’ Script Is Better Than Movie
It’s hard to believe that a Tarantino script like this can somehow turn into the crappy trailer above. The Inglourious Basterds screenplay looked like it had a lot of potential and the makings of a great movie. Well after viewing the trailer maybe not. You would think that Harvey Weinstein would have learned after the dismal failure that was Grindhouse, but it’s not entirely his fault, Brad Pitt’s ridiculously unconvincing Southern accent should certainly take a big chunk of the blame when this thing bombs.
Preview of ‘Confidential’ Banksy Documentary
So it looks like someone is producing a documentary on marginally anonymous millionaire street artist known as Banky and although they might not want you to see it yet, judging by the big “CONFIDENTIAL not for distribution” banner across the screen, we’ve decided to show it to you anyway—it’s what Banksy would have wanted. |artnouveaumagazine|
