The Queensboro Bridge officially opened to the public on March 30, 1909 and now 102 years later, it doesn’t even exist according to Wikipedia… well at least its NYC entry doesn’t. Although the City Council did pass the bill to rename the bridge, Mayor Bloomberg still hasn’t signed it into law. But that didn’t stop the community sourcing website from stripping its title and redirecting (web) traffic to this one: Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge.

As you’ve probably heard, the Republican that heckled President Obama during his address to Congress (and the rest of the world) was identified as Representative Joe Wilson from South Carolina. Shouting “You lie,” it didn’t take long for people to respond online and in keeping with the spirit of the internet, the congressman’s Wikipedia was altered to reflect current events:

“He is a douchebag that called the President of the United States a liar on national television and has no respect for the office he holds.”

He was also lambasted on Facebook and Twitter where he remains as the #1 trending topic—for being an asshole! And then there’s this website.

Within hours of Ted Kennedy’s death, cyber vandals quickly got to work and started defacing Mary Jo Kopechne’s Wikipedia page. A slew of revisions were made, most of them distasteful, which forced the website to suspend any further edits for new and unregistered users. Enjoy:

[A]ccording to Media Week, in the first six months of 2008, VIBE’s advertising pages have declined by 17.9% and revenues have fallen by over 20%. MediaWeek reports, “In the second half of 2007, “Single-copy sales plummeted 18.8 percent, though, and the magazine started using verified, or public place, copies to help make its rate base for the last three issues.

VIBE.com has fallen from a top 5000 Alexa rank (meaning the site was one of the world’s 5000 largest at that time) in December 2007 to an Alexa rank of smaller than 30,000. According to multiple sources, the company is no longer profitable.

VIBE recently cut its rate base from 850,000 to 800,000, while concurrently increasing its price from $3.99 to $4.99 per issue.
