Today Are the Midterm Elections… Meh

November 4, 2014 | Bucky Turco

Did you vote today? Of course you didn’t. It’s the midterm elections, the elections no one cares about. And for good reason. It represents the part of the political cycle when crazy right-wing politicians make modest gains in the House of Representatives (and sometimes the Senate), giving pundits endless fodder to speculate about how it’s a referendum on change before they pivot to the possibility of a Republican president in the next administration.

Locally, since we can’t vote for the legalization of weed, not much is going on, either. In New York, we have a governor who was too feeble to participate in a televised debate with anyone and ran the most cautious campaign in history. He’s going to win. On Staten Island, a congressman who threatened a reporter on-air — and is facing a federal criminal indictment — is likely to be reelected because that borough sucks. All across Long Island, there are political things going on as well, none of them worth mentioning. Same for Upstate.

So, if you find yourself not making it to the polls, don’t worry, you’re in good company.
