Triathlete Opens Weed Edibles Gym

November 14, 2014 | Amy K. Nelson

Clifford Drusinsky is 39 years old and last year he won a triathlon in Miami. One thing that separates him from most other athletes, though, is Drusinsky trained while using weed energy bars.

Drusinky is so convinced that weed helps his workouts that he’s opened his own gym, F.I.T.S. Conditioning, to spread the “gospel of marijuana-infused fitness,” according to Men’s Journal.

While Drusinky said he wasn’t high for his win in South Beach, he often was during much of his training. Said the magazine:

Four to six times a week, elite triathlete Clifford Drusinsky wakes up at 3 AM to train. But before he sets out, he opts not for a sports drink but for 20 milligrams of THC in a marijuana energy bar. By the time it kicks in, 30 minutes later, he’s started an hour in the pool, a three-hour bike ride, or a 13-mile run. “Marijuana relaxes me and allows me to go into a controlled, meditational place,” says Drusinsky. “When I get high, I train smarter and focus on form”.

The rest of the story explains how, as recreational weed use has started to become legalized in states, and public opinion is shifting toward more tolerance with weed, more athletes are feeling free to come “out of the cannabis closet.”

It isn’t the first time people have recognized the benefits of working out and weed. And hooray for that. Too bad the NFL can’t seem to get on board.
