Two of Banksy’s Central Park “Spray Art” Canvases Sell for $214,000 at Auction

On one day during Banksy’s “New York residency” in October, the artist set up a street vendor stand selling “spray art” canvases for $60 a pop. Two of these canvases have sold at Bonhams, clocking in at $214,000.

A woman from New Zealand who purchased Kids on Guns (2013) and Winnie the Pooh (2013) –and was later mailed a certificate of authenticity — sold both of the works above or close to their high estimates.

The authentic Banksy stencils were on 18inch by 18inch canvases, saving the seller the trouble of chiseling it out of the wall and hauling it to an auction, proving once again — things that resemble paintings will always sell. (Image: Bonhams via ArtNet)
