God Forbid You Don't Watch 'Religilous'
CNN might have provided a sliver of perspective into America's absurdity with Jesus, but Bill Maher really puts the nail in the coffin of this world's fascination with the make-believe in his new documentary "Religilous." Instead of lamenting how imperative it is for all logically thinking humans to see this film when it drops on October 3rd, it makes more sense to quote the opposition on why you shouldn't watch it or even check out the website. According to these crazy Catholics, Bill Maher is a comic with Illuminati motives: "On his site, which I don’t suggest you go to, is full of all sorts language and horrible blasphemy, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if this guy was a mason. In fact I would find it very interesting, because it would expose his agenda and only further my point that this guy may very well believe in God himself but attempts to bring himself above God and stomp on him."

Writing a movie review before it gets released?
Based on the trailer? Very studious.
Does this guy even mention Bill by name?
Must be too scary.
Booga booga Bill's site is too scary also.
So much scarier than the current ass-raping
we will get by Wall Street?
On second thought, we may only be able to
afford to see the free trailer :(

every human being on the planet should be forced to watch Religilous. I went to see it last night and was delighted that he didn't just poke fun, but sited myriad facts that should completely distroy anyone's belief in religion. Finally, someone has the balls to stand up for reason.

I saw the movie yesterday. Religilous is funny, smart, well-produced, and entertaining. FINALLY someone put out there what we in the reality-based community already know. Maher has done his homework and in many parts of the movie, knows the religious texts in more detail and more correctly than the people he's interviewing. I don't hide my secular humanism and that at its core is atheism; I'm glad Maher loudly and intelligently puts his skepticism out there and can back up his points. This cannot be said of the believers, since faith isn't based on fact, and religion cannot be defended because of the violence it is based upon. See this movie - it should be required viewing.

I suppose you would agree that socialism cannot be defended because of the violence caused by the outwardly socialist governments of the last century.
Examining the premise that somehow violence invalidates religion begs the question; why is violence a problem insofar as you espouse a skeptical and atheist world view? Wouldn't violence simply be a fact to be considered? Since violence is a well established fact in human history does this not indicate that it is a hard wired feature of human nature?
Clearly humans in the last century did not rely on religious believes to justify violence. Certainly the people killed by Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Hitler were not murdered for a religious purpose, except to the extent that they were trying to erradicate religion. Hitler did not kill Jews because he was a christian. He killed Jews because he believed Jews and aryans were involved in a struggle for control of the planet.
